Donta Smith gets MVP of the Week award for Venezuelan SLB (by Hoops Agents)- April 16, 2021
The 37-year old had the game-high 20 points adding seven rebounds and six assists for Trotamundos in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Condores (#9, 0-5), the league's bottom-ranked team 77-73. Trotamundos maintains the 2nd position in their group in Venezuelan SLB. They are still close to the very top. Trotamundos would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 5-1 record. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 88.9% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Trotamundos, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Southeastern Illinois College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Smith is in league's top in assists (6th best: 4.7apg) and averages solid 81.5% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old power forward Eduardo Diaz (205-PF-93) of Bucaneros. Diaz impressed basketball fans with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Bucaneros lost that game 83-91 to the higher-ranked Broncos (#3, 3-2). This loss caused Bucaneros to drop to 6th position in Group A. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Diaz is one of the most experienced players at Bucaneros and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last round was Dominican Rep. Kelvin Pena (193-G-80) of Centauros (#4). Pena scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was a key player of Centauros, leading his team to a 74-73 win against Taurinos (#8, 0-4). Centauros needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams in Group B. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 2 lost games. Pena has a great season in Venezuela. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.6ppg (6th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Humberto Bompart (183-PG-94) of Gladiadores - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Luis Almanza (196-C/F-91) of Supersonicos - 22 points and 14 rebounds 6. Nestor Colmenares (203-PF-87) of Cocodrilos - 17 points and 14 rebounds 7. Arian Amundaray (192-PG-01) of Trotamundos - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Jaime Finol (195-F-87) of Broncos - 20 points and 5 rebounds 9. Gregory Vargas (182-PG-86) of Cocodrilos - 21 points, 2 rebounds and 10 assists 10. Jose Martinez (196-F-82) of Llaneros - 17 points and 7 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
