Taurinos - Llaneros 84-78 Rather expected game in La Asuncion where 6th ranked Llaneros (1-3) were defeated by fourth ranked Taurinos (3-4) 84-78 on Monday. Taurinos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Llaneros' players. Gregory Curvelo (195-90) fired 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Swingman Irwin Heredia (190-0) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Taurinos players scored in double figures. Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-96, college: High School) produced 18 points and swingman Melvin Zambrano (193-95) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Llaneros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Taurinos moved-up to third place, which they share with Diablos. Llaneros lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with three games lost. Taurinos will again meet Llaneros (#6) in the next round. Llaneros will have a break next round. Broncos forced 20 Supersonicos turnovers. Strangely Supersonicos outrebounded Broncos 43-31 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for naturalized Colombian Hector Diaz (192-92) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds. American Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy, agency: BIG) helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side the former international forward Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) responded with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American Jaelyn Johnson-Coston (198-93, college: FMU) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Broncos moved-up to third place. Supersonicos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Trotamundos. Broncos are looking forward to face Cangrejeros (#5) in Maturin in the next round. Second ranked Gladiadores (6-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Cangrejeros (1-5). Gladiadores did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 85-65 on Tuesday. Gladiadores outrebounded Cangrejeros 47-31 including 34 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Power forward Jesus Martinez (206-86) fired 9 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Guard Jholbeth Mendez (180-95) chipped in 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Geovanny Marquez produced 13 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Carlos Gascon (178-90) added 10 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gladiadores have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Cangrejeros keep the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Centauros. Diablos were defeated at home 74-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Llaneros players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-96, college: High School) who led the winners and scored 22 points. Forward Jose Martinez (196-82) accounted for 16 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Forward Kelvin Caraballo (198-88) came up with 17 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Argenis Indriago (178-0) added 15 points respectively for Diablos in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Llaneros maintains sixth place with 1-3 record. Diablos at the other side keep the third position with four games lost. They share it with Taurinos. Llaneros will play against higher ranked Taurinos (#4) in La Asuncion in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Diablos will have a break next round.
