Cup Round 7 of Regular Season

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most shocking disappointment of round 7 in the Cup was a home defeat of 3rd placed Supersonicos (2-4) to fourth ranked Broncos (3-3) 88-77 in the game for the third place. Broncos forced 20 Supersonicos turnovers. Strangely Supersonicos outrebounded Broncos 43-31 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for naturalized Colombian Hector Diaz (192-92) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 5 rebounds. American Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy, agency: BIG) helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side the former international forward Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) responded with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Broncos moved-up to third place. Supersonicos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Trotamundos. Broncos are looking forward to face Cangrejeros (#5) in Maturin in the next round. Supersonicos' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Margarita to the arena Centauros.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Llaneros (#6) and Diablos (#3). Diablos were defeated at home 74-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was an exceptional evening for Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-96, college: High School) who led the winners and scored 22 points. Jose Martinez accounted for 16 points and 4 assists. Forward Kelvin Caraballo (198-88) came up with 17 points and 9 rebounds for Diablos in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Llaneros maintains sixth place with 1-3 record. Diablos at the other side keep the third position with four games lost. They share it with Taurinos. Llaneros will play against higher ranked Taurinos (#4) in La Asuncion in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Diablos will have a break next round.
The game in Maturin supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Gladiadores (6-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Cangrejeros (1-5). Gladiadores did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 85-65 on Tuesday. Jesus Martinez fired 9 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Geovanny Marquez produced 13 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gladiadores have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Cangrejeros keep the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Centauros. Gladiadores' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena .

In the last two games of round 7 Llaneros lost to Taurinos on the opponent's court 78-84. Centauros unfortunately lost to Gladiadores in a home game 64-73.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points and 5 rebounds by Carlos Cedeno of Gladiadores.

Taurinos - Llaneros 84-78

Rather expected game in La Asuncion where 6th ranked Llaneros (1-3) were defeated by fourth ranked Taurinos (3-4) 84-78 on Monday. Taurinos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Llaneros' players. Gregory Curvelo (195-90) fired 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Swingman Irwin Heredia (190-0) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Taurinos players scored in double figures. Dominican point guard Yerri Flores (188-96, college: High School) produced 18 points and swingman Melvin Zambrano (193-95) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Llaneros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Taurinos moved-up to third place, which they share with Diablos. Llaneros lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with three games lost. Taurinos will again meet Llaneros (#6) in the next round. Llaneros will have a break next round.

Power forward Jesus Martinez (206-86) fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. American-Mexican Durrell Summers (196-89, college: Michigan St.) produced 16 points and 6 rebounds and forward Javier Pinero (197-91) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Centauros' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gladiadores have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader.
