Trotamundos - Taurinos 90-83 Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from La Asuncion: Trotamundos (#4) and Taurinos (#4). Trotamundos (4-4) won against visiting Taurinos (3-5) 90-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Taurinos. Trotamundos made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Trotamundos made 7 blocks. American point guard Keron DeShields (190-92, college: Tennessee St., agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 28 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and naturalized American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Gregory Curvelo (195-90) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and swingman Irwin Heredia (190-0) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Taurinos keep the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Broncos. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. Cocodrilos looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) stepped up and scored 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Elder Gimenez (186-91) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Cristian Centeno (195-96) with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and center Aarom Espinoza (202-96) scored 8 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Cocodrilos. They maintain second place with 6-1 record having just one point less than leader Spartans, which they share with Gladiadores. Loser Llaneros dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with Cangrejeros. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Spartans. Fourth ranked Trotamundos (4-4) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Diablos (4-5) 73-70 in the game for the third place. Trotamundos players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a good game for the former international point guard Harold Cazorla (175-91, agency: Promo Sport ID) who led his team to a victory with 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Forward Kelvin Caraballo (198-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) added 10 points and 8 assists in the effort for Diablos. Five Diablos players scored in double figures. Diablos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries defeated 3rd placed Broncos in Porlamar 59-52. They outrebounded Broncos 41-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: NSU) who scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. International center Luis Carrillo (206-93) chipped in 4 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Michael Rudas (179-94) who recorded 11 points and 8 assists and swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) added 15 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guaiqueries (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Broncos at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Taurinos. Broncos will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Guaiqueries will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Centauros in Margarita.
