Guaiqueries celebrate Superliga Cup title

Guaiqueries - Trotamundos 79-76

Guaiqueries captured the Superliga Cup title. They held off Trotamundos in the championship game on Monday. Guaiqueries had a 29-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. Canadian Terry Thomas (193-91, college: Ottawa) nailed 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and international forward Jose Ascanio (204-96) accounted for 9 points and 9 rebounds. Guaiqueries' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American point guard Keron DeShields (190-92, college: Tennessee St., agency: BIG) came up with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Trotamundos in the defeat. Four Trotamundos players scored in double figures.

Spartans - Cocodrilos 72-77

Cocdrilos finished third in the Cup as they beat Spartans in the consolation final. Cocodrilos dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Spartans' 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Forward Jovanni Diaz (203-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Cesar Garcia (193-90) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Adonte Parker (186-89, college: Dayton) responded with 21 points and 4 assists and the former international forward Lenin Lopez (198-91) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
