Piratas-de-la-Guaira (SPB) added to their roster experienced 39-year old American-Nigerian ex-international power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204cm-116kg-1983, college: Arizona State) for season 2023. Diogu is the second import player in the roster as Dominican Rep. Juan Suero signed here earlier.
He played last summer at Bivouac (Big3) in the U.S. The last season he played at Zamalek in Egyptian league where in 6 Basketball Africa League games he recorded 12.5ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.2apg.
In 2005 he was drafted by Golden State Warriors (NBA) in first round (9th overall). He graduated from Arizona State and it will be his 19th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
He also represented USA at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast (Australia) five years ago. His stats at that event were 4 games: Score-2 (21.0ppg), Reb-2 (10.8rpg), 1.3apg, 1.0spg, FGP: 50.0%, 3PT: 34.6%, FT: 86.4%.
Diogu is quite experienced player. Thanks to Diogu's pro career he managed to play on four different continents (Asia, Latin America, Africa and of course North America) in seven different countries. He has played previously professionally in China (Guandong Tigers and Blue Whales), Iran (Chemidor), Japan (Shimane Susanoo Magic), Mexico (Astros), Puerto Rico (Vaqueros, Leones and Capitanes), NBA (LA Clippers, NY Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers) and Dominican Republic (Bameso).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his college team won Puerto Rican Manuel Zeno Gandia Cup in 2015. Diogu was voted USBasket.com All-D-League Impact Player of the Year back in 2014.
