SPB Round 11: Derby game ends with Panteras' defeat of Diablos

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Caracas: Panteras (#3) and Diablos (#5). Panteras (5-5) won against visiting Diablos (1-7) 85-70. Panteras looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American Elijah Minnie (206-1994, college: EMU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Pedro Chourio (186-1990, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 15 points and 7 assists for the winners. Dominican point guard Raimer Santana (183-1997) answered with 28 points for Diablos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panteras maintains third place with 5-5 record having just one point less than leader Piratas, which they share with Gaiteros and Centauros. Diablos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Cangrejeros. Panteras' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Diablos.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Caracas: Heroes (#4) and Brillantes (#2). Heroes (6-4) won against visiting Brillantes (6-4) 97-90. It was a great evening for Dominican point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Orlando Johnson helped adding 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Glen Rice Jr (198-1991, college: Georgia Tech) responded with 27 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Heroes have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Brillantes. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Gaiteros (5-5) against fifth ranked Centauros (5-5) on Sunday night. Host Gaiteros were defeated by Centauros in a tough game in Maracaibo 74-79. It was an exceptional evening for Jhonatan Araujo who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Matthew Butler came up with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Gaiteros in the defeat. Gaiteros' coach Ruben Nembhard rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Centauros moved-up to third place, which they share with Panteras and Gaiteros. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last two games of round 11 Gladiadores beat Gigantes on the road 83-69. Toros lost to Llaneros on its own court 80-85.



Panteras - Diablos 85-70

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Gladiadores (9-1) beat 4th placed Gigantes (3-6) in Puerto Ordaz 83-69 on Sunday. Gladiadores looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman David Nickelberry (201-1998, college: Buffalo) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import Jordan Adams (196-1994, college: UCLA) accounted for 18 points for the winning side. Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. The former international Jose Bracho (190-1998) came up with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Mexican forward Aaron Fuller (198-1989, college: USC, agency: Haylett Sports) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Gigantes in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gladiadores have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Gigantes at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with Taurinos. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Dominican Braynt De La Cruz (195) came up with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Javier Vargas (197-1998) added 16 points respectively for Toros in the defeat.
