Taurinos - Centauros 87-106 There was no surprise in La Asuncion where 9th ranked Taurinos (5-13) were crushed by sixth ranked Centauros (9-9) 106-87 on Sunday. Centauros made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Spanish-Dominican power forward Jhonatan Araujo (206-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 25 rebounds and 5 assists and American point guard Quade Green (183-1998, college: Washington) who added 18 points and 8 assists during the contest. Five Centauros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Jean Payen (193-2003) with 32 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Jhonder Gomez (196-2002) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Centauros have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gaiteros. Taurinos lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Centauros will meet higher ranked Broncos (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Taurinos will play against Llaneros (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Tenth ranked Diablos (4-12) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging second-best Cocodrilos (12-6) 67-65 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It was a good game for Canadian guard Taevaunn Prince (191-1991, college: MSSU) who led his team to a victory with 23 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Edry Gonzalez (185-1998) contributed with 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-1986) added 16 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Cocodrilos. Diablos moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Marinos. Cocodrilos lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with six games lost. They share it with Brillantes. Diablos will play against higher ranked Guaiqueries (#6) in Porlamar in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Spartans. Host Panteras were defeated by Guaiqueries in a tough game in Caracas 78-85. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Panteras. Guaiqueries looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Gendry Correa (190-1996) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds and American-Nigerian swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-1994, college: UCF) who added 13 points and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Avry Holmes (185-1994, college: Clemson) with 21 points and his fellow American import Elijah Minnie (206-1994, college: EMU) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Panteras' coach Daniel Seoane rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries maintains sixth position with 9-8 record. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican swingman Jassel Perez (195-2001) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals and the former international guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-1995) who added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Five Spartans players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard DaQuan Brooks (177-1990, college: W.Connecticut) with 23 points and 6 assists and the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-1978) scored 8 points and 13 rebounds. The best player for the winners was naturalized American Donta Smith (201-1983, college: SE Illinois JC) who scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. American swingman Mario Little (198-1987, college: Kansas) chipped in 20 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Cuban center Pedro Bombino (206-2000, agency: Pro Sports) who recorded 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Brian Guidi (200-1991) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Trotamundos have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Toros at the other side keep the tenth place with 17 games lost. Toros will play next round against Heroes trying to get back on the winning streak. Trotamundos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
