SPB Round 11 (Regular Season): Trotamundos beat Pioneros by two after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 11 in the SPB took place in La Asuncion. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Pioneros (5-3) to seventh ranked Trotamundos (5-4) 75-73 on Tuesday evening. Trotamundos outrebounded Pioneros 44-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. The former international center Nestor Colmenares (200-1987, college: Campbellsville) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Dallas Morgan (185-1998, college: CMU) contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. American Tim Bond (201-1995, college: EMU) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds for Pioneros. Pioneros' coach Nelson Solorzano rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Trotamundos moved-up to sixth place. Pioneros at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Spartans and Frontinos. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Spartans (5-3) against fifth ranked Marinos (6-3) on Tuesday night. Host Spartans were defeated by Marinos in a tough game in Caracas 74-78. It was a great evening for American forward Tony Farmer (201-1994, college: Lee JC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Michael Bryson helped adding 19 points. Marinos' coach Claudio Jorquera allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Dominican swingman Jassel Perez (195-2001) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Marinos moved-up to second place. Spartans at the other side keep the third position with three games lost. They share it with Pioneros and Frontinos. Marinos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartans will play again at home against the league's second-placed Marinos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Sydney Curry came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds for Panteras in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Guaiqueries moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Gladiadores. Loser Panteras dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. They share it with Cocodrilos. Guaiqueries will again meet at home Panteras (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Panteras will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 11 Brillantes beat Toros on the road 82-79.



Guaiqueries - Panteras 66-65

A very close game took place in Porlamar between Guaiqueries and Panteras. Tenth ranked Guaiqueries (4-4) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Panteras (3-5). Guaiqueries managed to escape with a 1-point win 66-65 on Tuesday evening. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Tyrone White (201-1990, college: CSUB) who led the winners and scored 15 points and 4 assists. The former international forward Jose Ascanio (204-1996) accounted for 8 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Sydney Curry (203-2000, college: GCU) came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import Elijah Minnie (203-1994, college: EMU, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Guaiqueries moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Gladiadores. Loser Panteras dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Toros - Brillantes 79-82

No shocking result in a game when eleventh ranked Brillantes (4-5) edged 13th ranked Toros (2-6) in Maracay 82-79 on Tuesday. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Chavaughn Lewis (195-1993, college: Marist) who led the winners and scored 22 points. His fellow American import forward Myke Henry (198-1992, college: DePaul) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Power forward Brian Guidi (200-1991) came up with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American guard Addison Spruill (195-1993, college: UNCW) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Toros in the defeat. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Brillantes moved-up to ninth place. Loser Toros keep the thirteenth position with six games lost. Brillantes' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas .
