SLFB 2025 - Caribenas, Marquesas and Diosas complete sweeps to stay unbeaten

Caribenas de Caracas (3-0), Marquesas de Barinas (2-0) and Diosas de Guacara (2-0) completed two-game sweeps in their respective series to stay unbeaten at the end of Round 1 in Venezuela's Superliga Femenina de Baloncesto 2025 (SLFB 2025), the top Women's league in the country.

Caribenas actually surprised the defending champions Pastoras de Lara (0-2) at their own court, Napoleon Rodriguez Arena in Barquisimeto.

They won the first match by a 21-point margin (68-47), thanks to Eduglatriz Castro (178-F-2004), who completed a double double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, adding 3 assists and 3 steals. She got help from the team's captain, Waleska Perez (180-G-1994, college: Weatherford JC), who completed a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, adding 4 assists and 5 steals. Yesimar Escudero (168-PG-2007) added 11 points. For Pastoras, Nicole Garcia (174-SG-2001) finished up with 12 points and 6 boards.

In the second game, Caribenas (3-0) prevailed, 74-66, led by Waleska Perez with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 8 steals and 7 assists, in another dominant performance. Another player of Venezuela's Senior NT, Aguehil Fajardo (183-PF-1999), made her debut and contributed with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Eduglatriz Castro added 10 points and 8 boards. For Pastoras, Nicole Garcia scored 18 and grabbed 8 rebounds, Roberli Perez (158-PG-2009) netted 14 with 8 boards and Fabiana Hernandez (173-PG-2006) finished up with 13 points and 4 steals.

Meanwhile, Diosas (2-0) made an astonishing debut as a franchise in the league by winning two away games against Capitalinas de Distrito Capital (0-3). They took the first game, 77-63, thanks to their captain, Yosimar Corrales (184-PF-1990), who scored 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and added 7 assists and 5 steals. Yolimar Martinez (184-C-1995) added another double double with 16 points and 14 boards and both Yohanny Uribe and Guadalupe Diaz (163-PG-1999) finished up with 14 points. For Capitalinas, Jessuana Machado (176-SF-2004) scored 15 points.

They completed the sweep with a 67-52 the next night, again led by Yosimar Corrales with 17 points and 7 assists, as well as Yohanny Uribe with 17. Fabiana Garcia (169-PG-2006) led Capitalinas with 12 points and Jessuana Machado added 10.

Another first-year team, Marquesas de Barinas (2-0), hosted Gaiteras del Zulia (0-2) and defeated them twice at La Federacion Arena in Barinas. The first game ended with a 64-54 scoreboard. Ivonny Seijas (2006) led the way with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals and Floranghel Garcia (155-PG-2004) added 11 with 5 steals. For Gaiteras, Yorgelis Zapata completed a double double with 19 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and Danielis Ysasis (180-F-2004) added 13 points and 9 boards.

In the second game, Marquesas won, 74-71. Leidys Alburjas scored 24 points, added 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side, followed by Ivonny Seijas with 19 points, 10 boards and 4 assists. Floranghel Garcia supported them with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. For Gaiteras, Yorgelis Zapata netted 28 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, Yorkelly Weir added 11 points and Danielis Ysasis 10 points and 17 rebounds.
