SLFB 2025 - Round 2 - Caribenas stay on top, Pastoras react with a sweep and Marquesas split their series

Caribenas de Caracas (4-1) kept the lead at the top of the standings in Venezuela's Superliga Femenina de Baloncesto (SLFB) 2025, even though they lost their unbeaten run and split their series against Diosas de Guacara (3-1), as part of Round 2.

Diosas took the first game, 56-53, inspired by the fact that they were playing at their home court, Loma Linda Arena in Guacara, Carabobo.

Yosimar Corrales (184-PF-1990) scored 16 points and added 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. She got support from Doralis Cambero (1987) with 15 points and Guadalupe Diaz (163-PG-1999) with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. For Caribenas, Aguehil Fajardo (183-PF-1999) finished up with a double double (13 points and 14 rebounds), Waleska Perez (180-G-1994, college: Weatherford JC) added 13 points and 8 boards and Barbara Pico (168-PG-2002) ended with 11 points and 4 assists.

A couple days later at El Poliedrito Arena in Caracas, Caribenas took revenge, winning 70-62. Astrid Hinojosa (174-PF-2008) netted 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and handed out 4 assists. Aguehil Fajardo added 16 points and 8 rebounds and Barbara Pico added 13 points.

For Diosas, Guadalupe Diaz scored 17 points, Yohanny Uribe added 14 and Yosimar Corrales 11 with 8 rebounds and 5 steals.

Meanwhile, the defending champions Pastoras de Lara (2-2) took advantage of the arrival of their star player, Daniela Morillo-Wallen (179-SF-1995, college: Okla City), to sweep Gaiteras del Zulia (0-4) at Napoleon Rodriguez Arena in Barquisimeto, Lara.

They won the first game, 63-50. Fabiana Hernandez led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Hillary Perez (169-SF-1995) with 12 points and 9 rebounds, Angela Crespo with 11 points, 17 boards and 3 steals and Nicole Garcia (174-SG-2001) with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. For Gaiteras, Danha Aguilar netted 12 points and Yorgelis Zapata added a double double with 10 points and 18 rebounds.

The second match ended 73-53. Daniela Morillo-Wallen was totally dominant with a double double of 22 points and 23 rebounds, as well as 4 assists, while Hillary Perez added 16 points and Nicole Garcia 12 more. For Gaiteras, Yorgelis Zapata finished up with 10 points and 14 rebounds and Julieth Sivira added 7 points and 6 boards.

Marquesas de Barinas (3-1) split their series against Capitalinas de Distrito Capital (1-4) at La Federacion Arena in Barinas, Barinas. Capitalinas took the first game, 59-56, thanks to Jessuana Machado (176-SF-2004), who netted 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, combining efforts with Veronica Garcia, who scored 11 points.

For the hosts, Leidys Albrujas scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, Ivonny Seijas (2006) added 13 with 9 rebounds and 5 steals and Floranghel Garcia (155-PG-2004) 10 more with 5 boards and 4 assists.

In the second game, Marquesas punched back with a 58-55 win over Capitalinas. Floranghel Garcia scored 24 points, Edglimar Montero added 10 with 8 rebounds and Ivonny Seijas and Leidys Albrujas netted 10 each. For Capitalinas, Fabiana Garcia (169-PG-2006) finished up with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Sandri Rangel (176-F/C-2006) added 10 with 11 rebounds and Jessuana Machado 10 with 10 boards.
