Marinos de Oriente (SPB) agreed terms with 32-year old international forward Michael Carrera (196cm-97kg-1993, college: S.Carolina, agency: BIG), after they picked him from Gladiadores de Anzoategui in the Super 4 Draft. It is actually his comeback to Puerto La Cruz as he has played here before. Carrera played this summer at Gladiadores in the SPB. In 24 games just recently he had 14.7ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.9apg.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Carrera has been also a member of Venezuelan international program for some years. He has regularly played for Venezuelan senior team since 2012 and previously for U16 National Team in 2009.
Carrera represented Venezuela at the World Cup in China six years ago. But his stats at that event were not that impressive as he did not score anything.
He is quite experienced player. Carrera has played in nine different countries on four different continents (Europe, Latin America, Australia and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Argentina (Obras), Australia (Taipans), Chile (Ancud), Germany (Bamberg and Hamburg Towers), Mexico (Soles and Diablos), Russia (Avtodor), Spain (Estudiantes, Gran Canaria and Lleida), Venezuela (Guaiqueries, Trotamundos and Supersonicos) and NBA G League (OKC Blue). Carrera won Venezuelan SPB championship title in 2023 and 2024.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Spanish LEB Gold Import Player of the Year back in 2022.
He graduated from University of South Carolina in 2016 and it will be his eleventh season as a professional player.
