SLFB 2025 - Diego Vasquez becomes the head coach of Pastoras de Lara for the playoffs

Venezuelan coach and former player Diego Vasquez , born in Barquisimeto, Lara, was appointed as the new head coach of Pastoras de Lara (12-6) before the playoffs in Venezuela's Superliga Nacional de Baloncesto Femenino (SLFB) 2025.

Vasquez started his new role with a two-game sweep over Capitalinas de Distrito Capital (7-12) as visitors at Naciones Unidas Park in Caracas, taking both games with the same scoreboard, 89-58 and 89-58.

"I thank the organization for giving me this opportunity. You don't really have to be a great coach to manage this talented group of players, their level is very high, I only need to point them into the right direction a bit, they know how to play and how to make things happen", said Vasquez to the league's official IG account.

"I'm very happy for the things they did, for following what I said and because they paid attention to the few things we've already talked about", he added.

"I want to be defensive-minded as coach. I've been following up Pastoras for a few years now, it's a team that runs a lot, that knows how to finish so we need to do defensive stoppage so that we can run", said Vasquez about what he plans to do.

"I've tried to take the best of the coaches I've worked with in the past (as an assistant coach) to add that to the way I want my teams to play, with defense and speed in mind", he added.
