Superliga Femenina 2026 - Eight teams will clash for the title- March 7, 2026
POSTED BY: Francisco Vega
Venezuela's Superliga Femenina Profesional de Baloncesto will start its 2026 season on March 8th with the participation of eight (8) franchises, including the current title holders, Pastoras de Lara, a team that has won the championship for the past two seasons (2024 and 2025).
This time, the teams will be split into two Conferences (4 teams each). Conferencia Occidental or Western Conference will include Pastoras, the returning Indias de Miranda (didn't play in 2025 but played in 2024) and two new franchises, Costaneras de Puerto Cabello and Hidrocarburos de Caracas. Meanwhile, in Conferencia Oriental or Eastern Conference, the runner-up of the 2024 and 2025, Caribenas de Caracas, will play against three new franchises: Gemelas de Miranda, Marineras de Anzoategui and Atletico Sucre. This is a huge change in comparison to the 2025 season, as there are four franchises that decided not to participate: Diosas de Guacara, Capitalinas de Distrito Capital, Marquesas de Barinas and Gaiteras del Zulia. Back in 2024, another franchise, Mineras de Cojedes, also folded. Pastoras defeated Caribenas 3-1 in the 2025 Finals series, led by coach Diego Vasquez (now back working in Men's SPB as assistant coach) and a team packed with Venezuelan Senior National Team's talents such as Daniela Morillo-Wallen (179-SF-1995, college: Okla City), Mariana Duran (172-PG-1993, college: Okla City), Genesis Rivera (180-G/F-1996, college: UMass) and Odeth Betancourt (188-F-2000, college: WKU), all of whom are now playing overseas and will not be available for the start of the season. The league's Comissioner will be, for a second straight year, former Venezuelan Senior National Team captain, Ivaney Marquez (181-F-1983, college: Grayson County).
