SPB Round 9 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Cocodrilos' defeat of Marinos

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Caracas: Cocodrilos (#6) and Marinos (#2). Cocodrilos (4-1) won against visiting Marinos (4-2) 85-76. It was a key game for the second position in the league. 24 personal fouls committed by Marinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Dominican Diego Colon (188-2001) contributed with 23 points for the winners. International point guard Gregory Vargas (181-1986) answered with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for Marinos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cocodrilos moved-up to second place, which they share with Guaiqueries. Newly promoted Marinos dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Pioneros and Spartans. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Heroes.
Bottom-ranked Piratas is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to eighth ranked Trotamundos (3-3) 86-69. Panamanian power forward Eric Romero (210-1999) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Ricky Ledo chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Jordan Hamilton (201-1990, college: Texas) with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Trotamundos maintains eighth place with 3-3 record. Piratas at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. Trotamundos will play against Panteras (#11) in Caracas in the next round. Piratas will have a break next round.
The game between seventh ranked Guaiqueries (4-1) and 10th ranked Centauros (1-5) in Porlamar on Friday ended with biggest points difference. Guaiqueries outscored guests from Margarita 93-61. Tavario Miller nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side. DeAngelo Stewart came up with 13 points for Centauros in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guaiqueries have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cocodrilos. Loser Centauros dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 9 Spartans smashed Diablos on the road 101-79.




Trotamundos - Piratas 86-69

Bottom-ranked Piratas is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to eighth ranked Trotamundos (3-3) 86-69. Trotamundos players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Piratas' players. Panamanian power forward Eric Romero (210-1999) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American Ricky Ledo (201-1992, college: Providence) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Jordan Hamilton (201-1990, college: Texas) with 21 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import swingman James Ennis (201-1990, college: LBSU) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Spartans (4-2) crushed 9th ranked Diablos (2-4) in Caracas 101-79 on Thursday. Spartans made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The former international forward Michael Carrera (196-1993, college: S.Carolina, agency: BIG) nailed 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and American-Dominican guard Adonys Henriquez (201-1994, college: St.Louis) accounted for 20 points and 5 rebounds. Four Spartans players scored in double figures. American swingman ArMond Davis (197-1995, college: UCSB) came up with 19 points and the other American import forward Delwan Graham (200-1988, college: Jacksonville, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Diablos in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spartans moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Pioneros and Marinos. Loser Diablos keep the ninth position with four games lost.
