SPB Round 17 of Regular Season

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game in Caracas supposed to be quite interesting. Seventh ranked Guaiqueries (6-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Brillantes (4-5). Guaiqueries smashed Brillantes 95-60 on Sunday. Guaiqueries made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Guaiqueries outrebounded Brillantes 46-25 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guaiqueries looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Brillantes' players. Dominican point guard Gelvis Solano (185-1994, college: Merrimack) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and American guard Tyrone White (201-1990, college: CSUB) chipped in 16 points. Forward Jesuangel Guillen (193-2000) responded with 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guaiqueries moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Spartans and Marinos. Brillantes at the other side keep the eighth position with five games lost. Guaiqueries will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brillantes will play on the road against Centauros (#12) in Margarita and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Pioneros (#7) and Panteras (#13). Despite it looked like an easy game for Pioneros, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Panteras challenged much higher ranked Pioneros giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by five points 97-92. The former international Edgar Martinez (199-1997) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and Brevin Galloway accounted for 18 points and 4 assists. point guard Argenis Indriago (178-2000) came up with 24 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for Panteras in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pioneros maintains seventh place with 6-4 record. Panteras lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Pioneros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Panteras' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Diablos.

In the last two games of round 17 Trotamundos destroyed Centauros on the opponent's court 108-78. Cocodrilos outscored Piratas in a home game 105-85.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 36 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by Diego Colon of Cocodrilos.



Panteras - Pioneros 92-97

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Pioneros (#7) and Panteras (#13). Despite it looked like an easy game for Pioneros, those rules do not exist in derby games. Centauros - Trotamundos 78-108

Very expected game in Margarita where 12th ranked Centauros (2-8) were crushed by second ranked Trotamundos (7-3) 108-78. Trotamundos shot 60.3 percent from the field and made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Trotamundos outrebounded Centauros 39-21 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Trotamundos shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Centauros were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Panamanian power forward Eric Romero (210-1999) nailed 21 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winning side and forward Anthony Reyes (180-2006) accounted for 25 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!). Four Trotamundos players scored in double figures. Forward Miguel Lunar (198-2002) came up with 13 points and Colombian forward Yustin Llerena (195-2002) added 13 points respectively for Centauros in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Trotamundos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-3 record behind leader Gaiteros, which they share with Cocodrilos. Centauros at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Piratas. Trotamundos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Centauros will play at home against Brillantes (#8) and hope to get back on the winning track.

Very predictable result in Caracas where fifth ranked Cocodrilos (7-3) smashed 11th ranked Piratas (2-8) 105-85. Cocodrilos made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Dominican Diego Colon (188-2001) nailed 36 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winning side and Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) accounted for 11 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. American swingman James Ennis (201-1990, college: LBSU) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the other American import forward Jordan Hamilton (201-1990, college: Texas) added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Piratas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cocodrilos moved-up to second place, which they share with Trotamundos. Piratas at the other side keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Centauros. Cocodrilos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
