SPB Round 24 (Regular Season): Trotamundos hand first defeat to Gaiteros

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Gaiteros (12-1) recorded its first loss in La Asuncion on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Trotamundos (10-5) 76-71. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Gaiteros. Trotamundos looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard James Reese V (193-1998, college: S.Carolina) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Naturalized American Donta Smith (201-1983, college: SE Illinois JC) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Nahziah Carter (198-1999, college: Washington) who recorded 22 points and 5 assists. Gaiteros' coach Julio Duquela rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Trotamundos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Gaiteros still keep top position with one game lost. Trotamundos are looking forward to face Marinos (#6) in Caracas in the next round. Gaiteros will have a break next round.
The game in Porlamar was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Spartans (11-3) played at the court of 5th ranked Guaiqueries (9-5). Spartans managed to secure a 4-point victory 77-73. It was a good game for Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) who led his team to a victory with 24 points. Michael Watkins contributed with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for Guaiqueries. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spartans have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cocodrilos. Guaiqueries at the other side keep the fifth position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in Caracas between Piratas and Marinos. Eleventh ranked Piratas (5-9) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Marinos (8-7). Piratas managed to escape with a 2-point win 80-78 on Sunday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Yeison Colome who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was Tobin Carberry with 31 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Piratas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Diablos and Heroes. Newly promoted Marinos keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Piratas will meet at home higher ranked Pioneros (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Marinos will play against Trotamundos in La Asuncion and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 24 Cocodrilos defeated Centauros in Caracas 81-76. Pioneros smashed Panteras at home 85-62.
The best stats of 24th round was 6 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists by Heissler Guillent of Pioneros.



Centauros - Cocodrilos 76-81

There was no surprise in Margarita where 12th ranked Centauros (2-12) were defeated by third ranked Cocodrilos (11-3) 81-76 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican Diego Colon (188-2001) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 4 assists and the former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-1986) who added 10 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Dominican swingman Luis Martinez (196-2000) with 26 points and guard Douglas Rondon (175-1995) scored 19 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cocodrilos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Spartans. Centauros lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas .

Guaiqueries - Spartans 73-77

Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and Bahamas center Tavario Miller (203-1994, college: Texas A&M) added 8 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Guaiqueries. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spartans have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Cocodrilos. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) who helped to win the game recording 6 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists and Johendrys Salazar (192-2004) who added 13 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Wilkerman Gomez (190-2001) with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international center Luis Carrillo (206-1993) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds.
