SPB Round 27 (Regular Season): Pioneros edge Marinos by one point

The most exciting game of round 27 in the SPB took place in Caracas. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Marinos (8-9) to seventh ranked Pioneros (9-8) 74-73 on Thursday evening. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) who scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. American forward Jarell Eddie (201-1991, college: Virginia Tech) chipped in 19 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Tobin Carberry (192-1991, college: LIU Post) who recorded 20 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pioneros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Marinos lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Juan Guerrero contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Delwan Graham (200-1988, college: Jacksonville, agency: Interperformances) answered with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Diablos. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guaiqueries maintains fifth place with 10-6 record. Diablos at the other side keep the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Heroes. Guaiqueries will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Diablos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Spartans.

It was a great evening for Myke Henry who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Tae Williams with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brillantes moved-up to seventh place. Panteras lost twelfth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Brillantes will meet league's leader Gaiteros in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panteras will have a break next round.




Diablos - Guaiqueries 77-98

The game with biggest result difference took place in Caracas. Local Diablos (6-10) were outscored by fifth ranked Guaiqueries (10-6) 98-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Diablos. Guaiqueries shot 62.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 61.5 percentage. Guaiqueries players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for the former international guard Pedro Chourio (196-1990) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 5 assists. Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Delwan Graham (200-1988, college: Jacksonville, agency: Interperformances) answered with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Edry Gonzalez (185-1998) added 18 points in the effort for Diablos. Five Guaiqueries and four Diablos players scored in double figures. His fellow American import center Tevin Glass (203-1994, college: ETSU) helped adding 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American swingman Tae Williams (201-2000, college: CSU, agency: JCK Sports Group) with 11 points and 7 rebounds and guard Wilkerman Gomez (190-2001) scored 10 points and 4 assists. Five Brillantes and four Panteras players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
