SPB Round 33 (Regular Season): Pioneros edge Spartans by three points

The Regular Season in SPB is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 5 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 33 in the SPB took place in Caracas. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Spartans (15-7) to seventh ranked Pioneros (11-10) 91-88 on Monday evening. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-1986) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 assists. American forward Jarell Eddie (201-1991, college: Virginia Tech) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) who recorded 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pioneros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 11-10 record. Spartans at the other side keep the third position with seven games lost. Pioneros' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Diablos.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Cocodrilos (#2) and Spartans (#3). Cocodrilos (17-4) crushed visiting Spartans (15-7) by 36 points 97-61. It was a good game for Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Luis Bethelmy contributed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993) answered with 16 points for Spartans. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cocodrilos maintains second place with 17-4 record having just two point less than leader Gaiteros. Spartans at the other side keep the third position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Nahziah Carter stepped up and scored 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. The best for the losing side was Kelvin Pena with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-2 record. Loser Centauros keep the twelfth position with 16 games lost. Gaiteros will meet at home Piratas (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Centauros will play against Guaiqueries and hope to secure a win.

Leader Gaiteros delivered the seventeenth victory on Monday night. This time they crushed 12th ranked Centauros (4-16) 82-58 in Margarita. Gaiteros forced 20 Centauros turnovers. American guard Nahziah Carter (198-1999, college: Washington) stepped up and scored 16 points and 4 assists for the winners and Colombian-Dominican point guard Jesse Zarzuela (188, college: Oregon) chipped in 18 points. Four Gaiteros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was naturalized Dominican Kelvin Pena (193-1980, college: Southeastern) with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Panamanian Gil Atencio (202-1996, college: St.Clair) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-2 record. Loser Centauros keep the twelfth position with 16 games lost. Gaiteros will meet at home Piratas (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Centauros will play against Guaiqueries and hope to secure a win.

There was no surprise in Caracas where 11th ranked Piratas (6-13) were defeated by ninth ranked Heroes (8-12) 84-76 on Monday. Heroes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Bahamas David Nesbitt (205-1991, college: St.Thomas, FL) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and American guard Jared Cunningham (194-1991, college: Oregon St., agency: BIG) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Five Heroes players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican Yeison Colome (190-1996) with 22 points and 4 assists and American forward Emmanuel Egbuta (201-1996, college: Tennessee St., agency: BIG) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Piratas' coach Nestor Garcia rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Heroes maintains ninth place with 8-12 record. Loser Piratas keep the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Trotamundos outrebounded Panteras 48-32 including 35 on the defensive glass. American Ricky Ledo (201-1992, college: Providence) stepped up and scored 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and the former international swingman Jhornan Zamora (196-1989) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Trotamundos' coach Ronald Guillen used entire bench in such tough game. The best for the losing side was point guard Yochuar Palacios (183-1985) with 16 points and 6 assists and American swingman Tae Williams (201-2000, college: CSU, agency: JCK Sports Group) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds.
