La Liga Argentina Round 37: Riachuelo LR defeat Echague

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Echague (18-8) on the court of twelfth ranked Riachuelo LR on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by Riachuelo LR 80-73. They made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Riachuelo LR outrebounded Echague 47-27 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward T.J. Robinson (203-89, college: LBSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds. Diego Alvarez contributed with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Lisandro Ruiz Moreno (185-89) answered with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for Echague. Echague's coach Oscar Bonell rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Riachuelo LR have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Riachuelo LR went down to thirteenth position due to points difference. Echague at the other side still keeps top place with eight games lost. Riachuelo LR are looking forward to face higher ranked Union SF (#3) in Santa Fe in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seventh-ranked Estudiantes T. (12-12) was very close to win a game against first ranked Echague (18-8) in Parana. Echague managed to secure only two-point victory 81-79. However their fans expected much easier game. Swingman Luciano Silva (190-96) stepped up and scored 31 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and Gianluca Vismara chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side point guard Gonzalo Alonso (178-2) responded with 22 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Echague maintains first place with 18-8 record. Estudiantes T. lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Echague will play against Salta Basket (#5) at home in the next round. Estudiantes T. will play against Colon SF in Santa Fe and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Villa S.Martin (16-8) against tenth ranked Dep Norte (9-12) on Tuesday night. Host Villa S.Martin was defeated by Dep Norte in a tough game in Resistencia 78-83. Nahuel Paciotti nailed 12 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side. Martin Cabrera came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for Villa S.Martin in the defeat. Dep Norte have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to ninth place. Loser Villa S.Martin dropped to the third position with eight games lost. They share it with Union SF. Dep Norte will meet Tiro Federal (#10) in the next round. Villa S.Martin will play against San Isidro (#14) and hope to secure a win.
Very important is a road loss of first ranked Dep Viedma (15-5) against tenth ranked Atenas (9-11) on Tuesday night. Visiting Dep Viedma was defeated by Atenas in Carmen de Patagones 79-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dep Viedma. Genaro Lorio fired 28 points and 4 assists for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Atenas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to ninth place. Dep Viedma at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost.
An interesting game for Villa S.Martin (16-8) which played road game in Cordoba against 4th placed Barrio Parque (16-7). Second ranked Villa S.Martin managed to get a 5-point victory 77-72. It was a very good performance for Franco Vieta who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Barrio Parque's coach E Villafane let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Villa S.Martin went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Union SF. Loser Barrio Parque dropped to the second place with seven games lost. Villa S.Martin will face San Isidro (#14) in San Francisco in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Barrio Parque will play on the road against Independiente (#15) in Santiago del Estero and hope to win that game.

Other games in round 37 were not that significant. Tiro Federal was beaten by Ameghino on the road 80-79. Dep Norte won against Independiente on its own court 86-69. Union SF managed to outperform Estudiantes T. in Santa Fe 82-77. Parque Sur recorded a loss to Rocamora at home 73-83. CAO Ceres defeated San Isidro on the opponent's court 69-61. Salta Basket beat Sp.America in a home game 75-70. Ameghino lost to Independiente on the road 62-72. CAO Ceres unfortunately lost to Barrio Parque on its own court 67-79. Riachuelo LR recorded a loss to Sp.America in Rosario 65-77. Racing was crushed by Lanus at home 61-90. San Isidro was beaten by Tiro Federal on the opponent's court 69-64. Colon SF won against Salta Basket in a home game 82-66.
The most impressive performance of 37th round was 17 points and 9 rebounds by Pedro Bombino of Colon SF.

Ameghino - Tiro Federal 80-79

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Ameghino (14-7) edged 11th ranked Tiro Federal (9-14) in Villa Maria 80-79 on Monday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It was a very good performance for power forward Juan Luis Abeiro (200-88) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Swingman Jonatan Torresi (190-94) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Sp.America (12-11) won against 12th ranked Riachuelo LR (7-16) in Rosario 77-65 on Tuesday. Sp.America outrebounded Riachuelo LR 34-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for forward Pablo Fernandez (196-82) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 assists. Forward Emilio Stucky (198-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Diego Alvarez answered with 15 points and 5 rebounds and guard Thiago Dasso (185-0) added 14 points in the effort for Riachuelo LR. Riachuelo LR's coach Fabricio Salas gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Sp.America moved-up to seventh place. Newly promoted Riachuelo LR dropped to the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Sp.America will face Estudiantes T. (#8) in the next round. Riachuelo LR will play against Union SF (#3) in Santa Fe and hope to win that game.

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Racing (8-7) was outscored by fifth ranked Lanus (11-9) in Chivilcoy 90-61 on Tuesday. Lanus looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Quite impressive performance for American forward Justin Everett (206-96, college: Humboldt St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Mauricio Lucero (178-99) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Lanus players scored in double figures. Swingman Julian Morales (195-95) answered with 12 points and 5 rebounds and Matias Aristu (194-95) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Racing. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lanus moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Del Progreso. Loser Racing dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dep Viedma. Atenas forced 24 Dep Viedma turnovers. Genaro Lorio (192-97) fired 28 points and 4 assists for the winners. Joaquin Giarraffa chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Lucas Gonzalez (199-94) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and Matias Eidintas (186-95) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Atenas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to ninth place. Tiro Federal made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Quite impressive performance for Jorge Banegas (190-93, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). Naturalized Italian Juan Kelly (189-88) contributed with 13 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Tomas Ligorria (195-94) answered with 10 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Juan Cruz Oberto (200-97) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for San Isidro. San Isidro's coach Sebastian Torre gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tiro Federal moved-up to tenth place. San Isidro lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Tiro Federal will face higher ranked Dep Norte (#9) in Armstrong in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Isidro will play on the road against Villa S.Martin (#4) in Resistencia and hope to win that game.
