LDD Round 39: San Martin is upset by La Union

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LDD. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between second ranked San Martin (28-8) and tenth ranked La Union (18-15) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. San Martin was defeated by La Union in a tough game in Formosa 79-85. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of San Martin. La Union dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to San Martin's 22. The best player for the winners was point guard Agustin Sigel (165-2002) who scored 32 points and 9 rebounds. DR Congolese forward David Efambe (201-2001) chipped in 24 points and 17 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Maximiliano Andreatta (211-1998, college: Gannon) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. La Union moved-up to ninth place. San Martin at the other side dropped to the third position with eight games lost. La Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Martin will play on the road against Union in Santa Fe and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Comunicaciones delivered the 31th victory. This time they crushed 20th ranked H.Americano (2-33) 83-57 in Mercedes. It was a good game for swingman Matias Nunez (191-1999) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Facundo Rivero contributed with 8 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. point guard Santiago Infante (182-2003) answered with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for H.Americano. Comunicaciones maintains first place with 31-5 record. H.Americano lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 33 lost games. Comunicaciones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. H.Americano will play on the road against the league's second-placed Boca Jrs (#2) in Buenos Aires and hopes to get back on the winning track.

However their fans expected easier game. It was a great evening for Mateo Corso who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Leandro Fogel with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds. Riachuelo LR maintains fifteenth place with 14-21 record. Gimnasia CR lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 32 games lost. They share it with Platense. Riachuelo LR will meet at home higher ranked Atenas (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gimnasia CR will have a break next round.

Other games of round 39 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Gimnasia was crushed by Instituto in Cordoba 100-77. Olimpico was beaten by Atenas at home 89-105. Regatas won against Union on the opponent's court 99-83. Obras unfortunately lost to San Lorenzo in a home game 73-84. Platense recorded a loss to Penarol on the road 68-76. San Lorenzo was crushed by Boca Jrs. on its own court 71-102. Bottom-ranked H.Americano was smashed by Obera in a road game 110-55. Quimsa destroyed Atenas at home 113-56.
The best stats of 39th round was 15 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals by Francisco Corradi of Quimsa.



Instituto - Gimnasia 100-77

There was no surprise in Cordoba where 18th ranked Gimnasia CR (5-32) was crushed by fifth ranked Instituto (26-11) 100-77 on Friday. Instituto dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia CR's 20. Instituto forced 22 Gimnasia CR turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for Juan Tulian (196-2000) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Lautaro Urquiza (177-2001) helped adding 10 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Instituto players scored in double figures. Instituto's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Tomas Solis (188-2003) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Instituto maintains fifth place with 26-11 record, which they share with Regatas. Gimnasia CR lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 32 games lost. They share it with Platense. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Everything could happen in La Banda at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Atenas and 11th ranked Olimpico had identical 17-18 record. But Olimpico was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Cordoba 105-89 on Saturday night. Atenas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Ignacio Segura (195-2000) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Thiago Sucatsky (178-2006) helped adding 23 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). Very expected game in Santa Fe where 14th ranked Union (15-24) was defeated by sixth ranked Regatas (26-11) 99-83 on Saturday. Regatas looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists.
