Cristian Cortez selected the top Argentinian playing abroad in last week's games

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Argentinian players, who play currently abroad.

Cristian Cortez

   #1. This week's number one is former U19 international point guard Cristian Cortez (185-1990, currently plays in Mexico). He led Fuerza Regia to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Halcones UV Xalapa (1-5) 76-64 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Monday. Cortez was MVP of the game. He scored 14 points and added 3 passes. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (13-3) is placed first in the LNBP. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Cortez averages: 6.2ppg, 1.4rpg, 4.6apg, 2FGP: 42.1%, 3FGP: 27.3% and FT: 75.0%. He has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Mexican. Cortez played for the Argentinian U19 national team year ago.

Fabian Ramirez

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Fabian Ramirez (200-1990, currently plays in Uruguay). He was the main contributor in Cordon's victory against the 12th-ranked Sayago (2-9) 71-67 in the Uruguayan Metropolitan (second division) on Tuesday night. Ramirez was the best player in that game. He recorded 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 32 minutes. Atletico Cordon Montevideo (9-2) is placed first in the Metropolitan. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Ramirez has relatively good stats this year: 14.5ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.6apg, 1.1bpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 69.4%(34-49), 3FGP: 35.8% and FT: 75.6% in 11 games he played so far. He played for the Argentinian national team in 20.

Erik Thomas

   #3. The Argentinian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international guard Erik Thomas (195-1995, college: New Orleans, currently plays in Mexico). Thomas could not help Abejas (1-15) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance Abejas was edged 91-89 on the road by the one of league's weakest teams Halcones UV Xalapa (#9). Thomas scored 12 points, had 8 boards, passed 3 assists and added 3 steals. It was his first game for Abejas this season. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Thomas is a naturalized American. He played for the Argentinian national team year ago. Thomas used to play for Regatas Corrientes in Argentinian league.

Agustin Caffaro

   #4. Center Agustin Caffaro (211-1995, currently plays in Uruguay) was not able to help Sayago in their game against 25 de Agosto (7-4) in the Uruguayan Metropolitan (second division). Despite his good performance on Friday night Caffaro scored 11 points. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Caffaro has relatively solid stats: 14.0ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1bpg. He used to play for the Argentinian national team back in 20.

Kevin Hernandez

   #5. Former international power forward Kevin Hernandez (205-1991, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Erik Thomas. But that was another game of his team in Mexican LNBP which we would like to mention. Hernandez contributed to a 2-point Abejas' victory against one of league's weakest teams Halcones UV Xalapa (1-5) 81-79. He scored 7 points, had 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 17 minutes. Abejas de Leon (1-15) is placed fourth in the LNBP. This year Hernandez's overall stats are: 5.8ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3spg in six games. He used to play for the Argentinian national team years ago.

Juan Brussino

   #6. Point guard Juan Brussino (185-1991, currently plays in Mexico) was the major contributor in Dorados' victory against the league outsider Correcaminos (0-5) 99-94 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) on Thursday night. He had a double-double by scoring 18 points and making 12 passes. Brussino also added 6 rebounds in 36 minutes. Dorados de Chihuahua (5-0) is placed first in the LNBP. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Brussino has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.0ppg, 3.8rpg, 5.6apg and 1.6spg in five games. Brussino is a former international player as he played for the Argentinian senior team year ago.

Franco Giorgetti

   #7. Former international forward Franco Giorgetti (203-1992, currently plays in Mexico) is a teammate of previously mentioned Juan Brussino and both played together in the last Mexican LNBP game. Giorgetti contributed to Dorados' victory against the league outsider Correcaminos (0-5) 99-94. He scored 14 points in 27 minutes. Giorgetti has reliable stats this year: 15.0ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg in five games. He used to play for the Argentinian national team years ago.

Pablo Alderete

   #8. Power forward Pablo Alderete (198-1993, currently plays in Ecuador) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Nesfebanor (1-11) crushing them 87-51 in the Ecuadorian National League in Friday night's game. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Punto Rojo LR (11-1) is placed first in the National League. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. This season Alderete has very high stats. He averages: 16.7ppg, 9.6rpg, 3.8apg and 1.3spg. Alderete used to play for the Argentinian U16 national team back in 9.

Cristian Scaramuzzino

   #9. Former U18 international center Cristian Scaramuzzino (206-1992, currently plays in Uruguay) contributed to Colon's victory against the closely-ranked Larranaga (7-4) 60-46 in the Uruguayan Metropolitan (second division) in Friday night's game. He scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 34 minutes. Colon F.C. (8-3) is placed fourth in the Metropolitan. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. He was MVP of the game. Avila scored 16 points, grabbed 6 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls in 29 minutes. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (13-3) is placed first in the LNBP. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Avila averages: 9.6ppg, 7.2rpg, 3.6apg and 1.6spg in five games he played so far.

   #2. Experienced Eduardo Gamboa (189-SG-1984, currently plays in Bolivia) was the main contributor in a La Salle's victory against the closely-ranked Univ.Sucre (3-12) 94-75 in the Bolivian Libobasquet last Friday. He was the top player that evening. Gamboa scored 33 points (!!!), had 7 boards, dished 8 assists and stole 3 balls in 40 minutes. Club Deportivo y Cultural La Salle de Tarija (8-7) is placed sixth in the Libobasquet. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Gamboa has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.1apg and 1.4spg in 10 games.

   #3. Joe Meneses (186-SG-2001, currently plays in Venezuela) managed to help Trotamundos de Carabobo to win against the fourth-ranked Llaneros (4-10) 81-74 in the Venezuelan SPB last Tuesday. Meneses recorded only 3 points. Trotamundos de Carabobo (11-1) is placed first in West-A group. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. This season Meneses averages just 1.3ppg.

   #4. Joaquin Gamazo (198-PF-1991, currently plays in Bolivia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Eduardo Gamboa and both played together in the last Bolivian Libobasquet game. Gamazo was the major contributor in a La Salle's victory against the closely-ranked Univ.Sucre (3-12) 94-75. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Gamazo also added 6 assists. This season Gamazo has very high stats. He averages: 22.2ppg, 13.5rpg and 3.4apg.

   #5. Manuel Lambrisca (192-G/F-1997, currently plays in Chile) contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked Sergio Ceppi (9-5) 63-44 in a derby game in the Chilean LNB 2 (second division) last Sunday. Lambrisca had a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added and 4 steals (made all of his six free throws) in 38 minutes. C.D. Boston College Santiagois placed first in Zona A. Lambrisca has very impressive stats this year: 18.0ppg, 7.6rpg, 3.2apg and 2.0spg in five games.

   #6. Fernando Dose (200-F-1994, currently plays in Paraguay) contributed to a 1-point San Jose's victory against the second-ranked Olimpia Kings 70-69 in a derby game in the Paraguayan LNB on Monday night. He was the top player that evening. Dose recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. This season Dose has very high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 5.4rpg and 2.8apg. Dose has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Paraguayan.

   #7. Franco Benitez (199-F-1994, currently plays in Paraguay) is a teammate of previously mentioned Fernando Dose. But that was another game of his team in Paraguayan LNB which we would like to mention. Benitez contributed to a 2-point San Jose's victory against the second-ranked Olimpia Kings 75-73 in a derby game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. Benitez also added 3 assists. Benitez's stats this season are: 14.3ppg, 8.2rpg and 1.3apg.

   #8. Federico Herrera (200-F/C-1993, currently plays in Chile) contributed to a Sportiva Italiana's victory against the sixth-ranked Manquehue 75-63 in the Chilean LNB 2 (second division) on Sunday night. He recorded 7 points, 3 assists and 3 steals in 30 minutes. This year Herrera's total stats are: 8.8ppg, 7.2rpg, 2.0apg and 1.5spg in 10 games.

   #9. Sebastian Picton (197-F-1992, currently plays in Paraguay) is a teammate of previously mentioned Fernando Dose and both played together in the last Paraguayan LNB game. Picton helped San Jose edge the second-ranked Olimpia Kings 70-69 in a derby game. He recorded 9 points in only 13 minutes. Picton's stats this year are: 11.3ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.3apg in 20 games.

Sebastian Alvarez (185-PG-1989, currently plays in Uruguay) helped Colon win their game against the closely-ranked Larranaga 60-46 in the Uruguayan Metropolitan (second division) on Friday night.
