La Liga Argentina Round 9: Zarate Basket lose to Pico FC

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in La Liga Argentina, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. The round was exceptionally exciting as four games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise took place in General Pico where host Pico FC (1-5) crushed league's leader Zarate Basket (5-1) 95-72 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Zarate Basket. Pico FC shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was American-Rwandan forward Axel Mpoyo (203-1997, college: GSU) who scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Manuel Peyronnet chipped in 23 points. Pico FC's coach Marcelo Germanetto felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Agustin Brocal (191-1997) who recorded 21 points and 7 rebounds. Pico FC left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Zarate Basket at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by San Isidro. Zarate Basket will play next round against Pilar trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Pico FC will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Racing in Chivilcoy.

It was a good game for power forward Juan Cruz Oberto (200-1997) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. San Isidro's coach Daniel Beltramo felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. point guard Nicolas Zurschmitten (183-1995) answered with 16 points for Salta Basket. San Isidro (6-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Salta Basket lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with five games lost. They share the position with Rocamora. Salta Basket will play next round against Villa S.Martin trying to get back on the winning streak. San Isidro will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Barrio Parque at Cordoba.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Ameghino (6-2) in Villa Maria on Monday night. Hosts were rolled over by San Isidro (6-1) 99-66. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ameghino. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Federico Zezular stepped up and scored 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. The best for the losing side was Matias Martinez with 20 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for San Isidro. They keep a position of league leader which they share with defeated Ameghino. Loser Ameghino still keeps top place with two games lost. They share the position with Ciclista. San Isidro will meet Barrio Parque (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ameghino will play against Echague and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 9 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Dep Norte was defeated by Sarmiento R. in Chaco 68-56. CAO Ceres was beaten by Dep Norte at home 79-81. Tucuman won against Echague on the opponent's court 69-68. Barrio Parque managed to outperform Echague in a home game 79-67. Estudiantes C. recorded a loss to Parque Sur on the road 72-70. H.Americano defeated Dep Viedma on its own court 74-67. Lanus beat Parque Sur in Buenos Aires 75-69. Ciclista destroyed Rocamora at home 81-54. Racing managed to outperform H.Americano on the opponent's court 81-69. Pergamino recorded a loss to Ciclista in a home game 64-67. Lanus was defeated by Rocamora on the road 105-103.
The best stats of 9th round was 22 points and 10 rebounds by Alejandro Quigley of Rocamora.



Group North
San Isidro - Salta Basket 95-66

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked San Isidro as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Zarate Basket) loss. San Isidro smashed 12th ranked Salta Basket in San Francisco 95-66. San Isidro made 18-of-18 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. San Isidro outrebounded Salta Basket 46-34 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Salta Basket's players. It was a good game for power forward Juan Cruz Oberto (200-1997) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Federico Zezular (198-2001) contributed with 18 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four San Isidro players scored in double figures. Andres Mariani (190-1987) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and guard Marcelo Martinez (187-1996) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Franco Montemagio (185-2002) with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals and swingman Juan Pablo Lugrin (196-1996) scored 9 points and 13 rebounds. Four Dep Norte players scored in double figures. Power forward Conrado Echevarria (195-1998, agency: BIG) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Jose Muruaga (188-1984) chipped in 19 points. The best for the losing side was forward Augusto Bruera (196-1998, agency: BIG) with 14 points and 8 rebounds and guard Federico Gonzalez (183-1988) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Echague players scored in double figures. Tucuman moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Echague. Everything could happen in Concepcion de Urug. at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Parque Sur and 11th ranked Estudiantes C. had identical 2-2 record. This time Parque Sur used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from Concordia 72-70 on Thursday night. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Parque Sur forced 20 Estudiantes C. turnovers. American forward Taurus Adams II (201-1998, college: S.Connecticut) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and forward Lucas Gallardo (199-2001) chipped in 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. There was an upset when higher ranked Lanus (3-2) was edged on the road by seventeenth ranked Rocamora (2-5) 105-103 on Monday. Rocamora dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Lanus' 36. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Rocamora made 7 blocks.
