LDB U20 Round 5: Pinheiros keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Pinheiros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pinheiros defeated 5th ranked Sao Jose in Sao Paulo 68-61. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Pinheiros made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Sao Jose turnovers. Forward Jonas Buffat (191-2000) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and power forward Daniel Lima (204-2003) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Leonardo Abreu (187-2002) responded with 6 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Praia. Sao Jose at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Sao Jose will play next round against Pato trying to get back on the winning streak. Pinheiros will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Sao Paulo. It will be extra interesting game as Sao Paulo is their local rival from Sao Paulo.

Raphael Feliciano produced 18 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Minas (1-1) left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Campo Mourao still closes the standings with two games lost. They share the position with UniFacisa. Minas will meet at home Brasilia (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Campo Mourao will play against Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 5: Cearense lost to Bauru on the opponent's court 59-69. Winless UniFacisa was outscored by Sao Paulo in a home game 52-88. Paulistano rolled over Franca on the road 73-49. Corinthians defeated Rio Claro on its own court 70-69. Mogi smashed Pato in Mogi das Cruze 84-65.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 12 points and 13 rebounds by Davy Costa of Mogi.

Bauru - Cearense 69-59

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Bauru and 7th ranked Cearense had identical 1-2 record. This time Bauru used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Fortaleza 69-59 on Tuesday night. Bauru looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was center Felipe Cardoso (212-2000) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Guard Joao Guizardi (184-2004) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 assists. Leonardo Cravero (200-2002) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds and guard Cristhya Fernandes (188-2001) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Cearense's coach Dannyel Russo rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Bauru (2-2) moved-up to sixth place. Loser Cearense dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. They share it with Franca. Bauru will meet Franca (#9) in the next round. Cearense will play against Rio Claro and hope to win that game.
