Undefeated Paulistano (7-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Sao Paulo (5-1) 78-69. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Sao Paulo made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. American power forward Tyrone Curnell (203-1988, college: Valdosta St.) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Marquinhos Vieira (207-1984) chipped in 17 points. Victor Camilo (203-1997) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Paulistano's coach Demetrius Ferraciu rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sao Paulo have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Pinheiros. Paulistano at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Sao Paulo. Third ranked Pinheiros (5-1) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging 8th ranked Sao Jose (3-4) 75-72 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Felipe Ruivo (188) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Dikembe Andre contributed with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Eddy Carvalho (197-1987) answered with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Sao Jose. Sao Jose at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Rio Claro. Pinheiros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sao Jose will play at home against Corinthians (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sao Paulo: Sao Paulo (#4) and Vivo/Franca (#3). Sao Paulo (5-1) crushed visiting Vivo/Franca (5-3) by 29 points 97-68.
