NBB Round 5: Vivo/Franca edge Corinthians by three points- November 6, 2022
It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in NBB, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Corinthians - Sesi Franca 82-85 The most exciting game of round 5 in the NBB took place in Sao Paulo. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Corinthians (3-3) to leader Vivo/Franca (6-0) 85-82 on Thursday evening. Vivo/Franca outrebounded Corinthians 44-31 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was international center Lucas Silva (208-1995) who scored 31 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Vivo/Franca players scored in double figures. Center Maique Tavares (210-1993) produced 29 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) added 20 points respectively for the hosts. Vivo/Franca have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Corinthians at the other side dropped to the eighth place with three games lost. They share the position with Minas and Paulistano. Vivo/Franca are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Fortaleza (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Corinthians will play against Pato (#16) in Pato Branco and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win. Italian-Argentinian forward Federico Aguerre (203-1988) stepped up and scored 28 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Argentinian guard Enzo Ruiz (194-1988) chipped in 22 points. U.Corinthians' coach Athos Calderaro used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Paulistano's coach Demetrius Ferraciu used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Panamanian-American point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-1989, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 15 points and guard Caue Freitas (192-1988) scored 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Paulistano. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Minas and Corinthians.
