NBB Round 3 (Regular Season): Leader Paulistano loses to Sesi/Franca

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in NBB, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Paulistano (1-1) in Sao Paulo on Friday night. Hosts were edged by Vivo/Franca (3-0) 71-69. The best player for the winners was the former international center Cristiano Felicio (210-1992, college: Oregon) who scored 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was who recorded 29 points and 5 rebounds. Paulistano's coach Demetrius Ferraciu rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vivo/Franca is looking forward to face Caxias do Sul (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Paulistano will play against Rio Claro and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Osasco, where Osasco (0-3) lost at home to Paschoalotto/Bauru (1-3) 69-82. It was a good game for the former international guard Alex Garcia (191-1980, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. Germerson Barbosa contributed with 28 points for the winners. The former international center Cristiano Felicio (210-1992, college: Oregon) answered with 15 points and 5 rebounds for Osasco. Osasco's coach Enio Vecchi tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Bauru will play against U.Corinthians (#9) in Santa Cruz do Sul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Osasco will have a break next round.
An interesting game took place in Rio de Janeiro, where Botafogo (1-2) lost at home to UNIFACISA (2-1) 72-85 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Melvin Johnson who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points. UNIFACISA's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Decensae White with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds. UNIFACISA will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Botafogo will play against Mogi (#11) in Mogi das Cruzes and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
UniFacisa defeated Vasco in Paraiba 84-80. Winless Cruzeiro was smashed by Mogi at home 84-103. Winless Rio Claro lost to undefeated Brasilia on the opponent's court 57-109.

There was no surprise in Rio de Janeiro where Vasco (0-3) was defeated by UNIFACISA (2-1) 84-80 on Friday. UniFacisa made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Venezuelan guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-1995) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Melvin Johnson (193-1993, college: VCU) helped adding 21 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Pedro Nunes (199-2000) with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and center Thiago Mathias (208-1989, college: N.Mexico JC) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Vasco's coach Leo Figueiro let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. UNIFACISA will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vasco will play against Corinthians (#10) in Sao Paulo and hopes to get finally their first victory.

It was a great evening for who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points. point guard Gabriel Campos (181-2001) helped adding 21 points. Five Mogi players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Venezuelan guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-1995) with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and center Ralfi Ansaloni (209-1987) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mogi will meet at home Botafogo (#14) in the next round. Cruzeiro will play against Pato (#16) in Pato Branco and hopes to get finally their first victory.

We should mention about the upset which took place in Osasco, where Osasco (0-3) lost at home to Paschoalotto/Bauru (1-3) 69-82. It looked good early as Osasco took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Paschoalotto/Bauru had a 28-12 second period charge getting the lead and Osasco was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-82. Paschoalotto/Bauru players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. It was a good game for the former international guard Alex Garcia (191-1980, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. Very expected game when Rio Claro (0-2) was rolled over on the road by Brasilia (2-0) 109-57 on Saturday. Brasilia dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Rio Claro's 24 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Brasilia forced 23 Rio Claro turnovers and outrebounded them 40-23 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Brasilia looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Rio Claro's players. It was a great evening for forward Brunao Cardoso (197-2002) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. point guard Lucas Lacerda (179-1997) helped adding 21 points. Four Brasilia players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was with 15 points and point guard Gabriel Campos (181-2001) scored 5 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brasilia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rio Claro will play against Paulistano (#12) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
