Mexico - U.S. Virgin Islands 81-37
Mexico finished Preliminary Round as No.2 in Group A with 2-1 record. It means that the host of the 2010 Centrobasket advanced to Semifinals, where they will meet Puerto Rico. On the other side, the U.S. Virgin Islands finished Preliminary Round winless as the last ranked team in the group. Brisa Silva (168-G-84, college: Oklahoma St.) top-scored for the winners with 23 points. Alexis Castro (183-G/F-86, agency: 22ft, college: Vermont) was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 28. Castro spent 25 minutes on the court collecting 18 points and 10 rebounds. Abril Garcia (190-F/C-81, college: ORU) (5 rebs) and Erika Gomez (187-F/C-76) (8 rebs) helped with 14 and 12 points respectively. In the loosing squad, Tamara Petersen (87) collected 10 points and 9 rebounds. She was the only ISV player with double-digits in scoring. Mexico was a way better team in this game. Alexis Castro and her teammates dominated in all basketball elements and the ISV was not able to resist. First quarter ended 19-9 for the hosts, while ISV took the second one with 9-11. Mexico showed its real face after the breather. They drained 30 points for ten minutes, while limiting ISV to just 9. At that time question about the winner was already resolved. Last quarter was just the formality, but still Mexicans won it 23-8 for the final 81-37. All Semifinals games are scheduled for Tuesday. The ISV will continue in Classification Round and their first rival will be Guatemala.
Jamaica - Dominican Republic 79-76
Jamaica finished the Preliminary Round in Mayaguez with perfect 3-0. It means that Jamaica goes to Semifinals as No.1 of Group A and will meet Trinidad and Tobago. Dominican Republic (1-2) failed to advance and will move to Classification Round for 5th to 8th place. Nicole Louden (172-G-83, college: Auburn) was totally the best player in this game. She spent 36 minutes on the court collecting 33 points and 5 assists. Simone Edwards (193-C-73, college: Iowa) also had very important role for Jamaica adding 17 points and 13 rebounds. Vanessa Gidden (191-C-85, college: Hofstra) had 15 pts and 15 rebs. Carmen Guzman (175-G-85, agency: Merit Sports, college: UAB) shined in defeat with 27 points and 7 boards. Jennifer Estrella (88) followed her with 15, while Andreina Paniagua scored 12 pts. Last quarter was the crucial one in this game. Before that, the opening period was totally leveled (15-15). Dominican Republic took control on its rival in Q2 ending it with nice 12-19. It means that Carmen Guzman and her teammates held decent 7-point lead at the half time. Jamaica improved after the breather and managed to close the gap to one point before the last ten minutes. In the finish of this game Jamaica players were more concentrated and managed to win the last quarter 25-21 for the final score of 79-76. All Semifinals game are scheduled for Tuesday. At the same day Dominican Republic will meet Saint Vincent in Classification Round.
Group B
Guatemala - Puerto Rico 53-87
Puerto Rico registered another easy win in Mayaguez. That is third straight victory for them for the perfect score and position No.1 in Group B at the end of the Preliminary Round. Thus, Puerto Rico will meet Mexico in the Semifinals. We have Guatemala on the other side, who finished as No.3 in this group with 1-2 score and will go to the Classification Round for 5th to 8th place. Jazmine Sepulveda (175-G-85, agency: Merit Sports, college: S.Florida) led the winners with 16 points and 8 rebounds (valuation 27). Angiely Morales (180-F/G-87) had 14 points and 6 boards, while Stephanie Rosado (188-F-89) added 13 points and 11 boards. In Guatemala, Maria Fleischmann (181-F/C-79) collected 18 points and 7 boards. Blanca Amado (180-G/F-79) had 10 pts. Puerto Rico did a great job in the first half. Jazmine Sepulveda and her teammates finished Q1 with excellent 6-27. They continued in the same rhythm and finished the second quarter 7-21 for impressive 13-47 HT lead. Question about the winner was already resolved. Despite that fact, Puerto Rico had nice third quarter as well. They finished with 15-24 and than slowed down. Guatemala used that to cut the margin a little but and that was all from them. Both Semifinals games are scheduled for Tuesday. Guatemala will meet the U.S. Virgin Islands at the same day (Classification Round).
Trinidad and Tobago - Saint Vincent 101-46
Easy win for Trinidad and Tobago, who finished Preliminary Round as No.2 in Group B with 2-1 record. T&T advanced to Semifinals, where they will take on Jamaica. On the other side, Saint Vincent ended this stage with three huge defeats. They will be transferred to Classification Round for 5th to 8th place. Alicia Liverpool (188-C-85) was the leading scorer in victory with 20 points and she grabbed 9 rebounds beside that. Rhea Codio (165-G-88) had 16 points and 10 assists, while Sharmion Selman (183-F-83) also scored 16. Rhonda John-Davis (F/G-75) helped with 13 points and 7 boards. In Saint Vincent, Tenicha Gittens (163-G-81) delivered 19 points. Sorayah Williams (84) had 15 pts and 9 boards. Trinidad and Tobago won every single quarter in this game. They started with 23-9 in Q1 and continued with 22-9 in the second period. It means that T&T was 45-18 up after twenty minutes of play. Nothing has changed after that. T&T was still the team who dominated and finished Q3 with 24-12. They blasted Saint Vincent in Q4 as well 32-16 for the final 101-46 victory. Both Semifinals games are scheduled for Tuesday. Saint Vincent will meet Dominican Republic at the same day (Classification Round).
