Cup Round 2: Los Leones keep a leadership position

Los Leones smashed Brisas in Quilpue 83-33. Los Leones held Brisas to an opponent 23.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.5 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Brisas 42-25 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Darrol Jones (193-1994) who scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. American Tyrone Lee (203-1990, college: GVSU) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Sebastian Ballesteros (-1996) produced 7 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brisas will play next round against Stadio Italiano trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago - Stadio Italiano. Los Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
Luis Matte recorded a loss in Santiago. Visitors were rolled over by Catolica 108-30. Point guard Pablo Allegrini (-2000) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 7 rebounds. Deiker Salcedo contributed with 18 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Manuel Briones (-1999) replied with 8 points for Luis Matte. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Catolica will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Luis Matte will play at home against Arabe de Valp. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of Manquehue against Tomas L. on Saturday night. Visiting Manquehue was defeated by Tomas L. in San Fernando 81-68. Joaquin Contreras scored 17 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Jorge Schuler responded with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tomas L. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Manquehue will play against Liceo Curico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Derick Machado (-1996) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Sebastian Fernandez (-1996) chipped in 6 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Forward Bastian Fuenzalida (-1997) responded with 9 points and 17 rebounds and Cuban guard Angel Ibanez (190-1990) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds.
