LNB Round 19: Los Leones are defeated by Las Animas

The game between second ranked Los Leones (14-3) and eighth ranked Las Animas (10-8) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Los Leones were defeated by Las Animas in a tough game in Valdivia 82-88. It was a great evening for American forward Shawn Glover (201-1990, college: ORU, agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) helped adding 18 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side American power forward Markus Kennedy (206-1991, college: SMU) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Las Animas moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Valdivia. Los Leones at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Las Animas is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Temuco (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Los Leones will play against Puerto Varas (#10) and are hoping to win this game.
LNB top team - Concepcion (18-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifteenth ranked Temuco (1-17) 78-60. It was a quality performance for international point guard Diego Silva (186) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Evandro Arteaga accounted for 19 points. Brazilian power forward Diego Dias Silva (207-1990) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds for Temuco in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Concepcion have an impressive series of eighteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-0 record. Temuco lost seventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 17 lost games. Concepcion will play against Castro (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Temuco will play against Las Animas (#7) to get more than just one victory in their record.
LNB top team - Concepcion (18-0) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they crushed thirteenth ranked Espanol T. (4-10) in Talca 121-65. Jerry Evans fired 28 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Davon Haynes produced 24 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the eighteenth consecutive win for Concepcion. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-0 record. Espanol T. lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with ten games lost. Concepcion will meet Castro (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Espanol T. will play against Puente Alto (#4) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 19: Castro won against Quilicura on the opponent's court 90-72. Espanol O. managed to outperform Catolica in a home game 82-69. Espanol T. was rolled over Puerto Montt on the road 114-88. Puerto Varas crushed Tinguiririca on its own court 103-78.



Quilicura - Castro 72-90

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Quilicura (9-8) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Castro (9-8) 90-72 on Sunday. Castro made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Castro made 7 blocks. Gabriel Diaz (-1999) fired 28 points and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. American swingman Sean Lloyd (196-1996, college: SIU) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Castro's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Chris Perry (203-1994, college: LMU) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds and the former international guard Pablo Coro (190-1990, college: BYU-Hawaii) added 20 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!) respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Castro moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Quilicura. Castro will meet at home league's leader Concepcion in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Quilicura will play against Tinguiririca (#14) in San Fernando and hope to secure a win.

Very predictable result when sixth ranked Espanol O. (11-9) defeated at home 11th ranked Catolica (5-13) 82-69 on Sunday. Espanol O. looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Power forward Anthony Lee (206-1991, college: Ohio St., agency: BIG) fired 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward DeAndre Daniels (206-1992, college: UConn, agency: BIG) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Espanol O. players scored in double figures. Forward TJ Robinson (203-1989, college: LBSU) produced 19 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Manny Payton (183-1997, college: FSU) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Espanol O.. They moved-up to fifth place. Catolica lost their third game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Puerto Montt. Espanol O. will meet Valdivia (#6) on the road in the next round. Catolica will play against Puerto Montt (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a minor upset when their close opponent Espanol T. (4-10) was rolled over on the road by thirteenth ranked Puerto Montt (5-13) 114-88 on Sunday. Puerto Montt outrebounded Espanol T. 49-34 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American Reggie Baker (193-1993, college: BCU) fired 39 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. His fellow American import forward Josh Morris (203-1993, college: UTPB) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Four Puerto Montt players scored in double figures. Puerto Montt's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Davon Haynes (203-1991, college: UAPB) produced 37 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian forward Kaleb Vaughn (198, college: Lake Erie) added 30 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Puerto Montt moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Catolica. Espanol T. lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with ten games lost.
