LNB Round 8 (Regular Season): Liceo PN hands first loss to Ancud

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Ancud (9-1) in Temuco on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by twelfth ranked Liceo PN (2-5) 77-75. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Ancud. American power forward Domonta Wright (202-1999, college: Cleveland St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import point guard Thomas Lang (183-1998, college: Shepherd) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. American-Argentinian Erik Thomas (195-1995, college: New Orleans) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for Ancud. Liceo PN moved-up to eleventh place. Ancud at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Espanol (7-2) against eighth ranked Puerto Varas (5-5) on Friday night. Visiting Espanol was defeated by Puerto Varas in a tough game in Puerto Varas 68-74. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Argentinian guard Romeao Ferguson (196-1997, college: Lipscomb) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 7 rebounds and Yahuza Rasas who added 12 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. American forward Darnell Cowart (203-1998, college: Murray St.) responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Varas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Espanol at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost.
An interesting game for Ancud (9-1) which played road game in Valdivia against 4th ranked Valdivia (5-3). First ranked Ancud managed to get a 7-point victory 89-82. The winners were led by Erik Thomas who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 23 points and 5 rebounds by Tirrell Brown did not help to save the game for Valdivia. Valdivia's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ancud have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record. Loser Valdivia keeps the fourth place with three games lost.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 8: Las Animas beat Puerto Montt on the road 74-63. Liceo PN lost to Castro on its own court 60-69. Espanol managed to outperform Puerto Montt in Osorno 75-57. Valdivia recorded a loss to Castro at home 79-88. Espanol was defeated by Catolica on the opponent's court 76-75. Puerto Varas beat Las Animas in a home game 92-86.



Puerto Montt - Las Animas 63-74

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Las Animas (5-4) beat on the road 9th ranked Puerto Montt (3-7) 74-63 on Friday. The winners were led by Argentinian power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) supported him with 14 points. Four Las Animas players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Jeremy Ireland (200-1996, college: Elmhurst) did not help to save the game for Puerto Montt. His fellow American import guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) added 15 points for the hosts. Despite that victory Las Animas went down to fifth position due to points difference. Puerto Montt lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with seven games lost.

Ancud made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American-Argentinian Erik Thomas (195-1995, college: New Orleans) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Franco Morales (181-1992) supported him with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Espanol forced 20 Puerto Montt turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American center Arnold Louis (201-1990, college: SSU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and the former international Carlos Lauler (190-1996) supported him with 11 points. Espanol O.'s coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest.
