LNB Round 5 (Regular Season): Univ.Concepcion roll past Las Animas

LNB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 5 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Univ.Concepcion as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Univ.Concepcion defeated second-ranked Las Animas at home 84-76. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Las Animas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was American point guard Emmanuel Payton-Clottey (183-1997, college: FSU) who scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) chipped in 25 points and 10 rebounds. Univ.Concepcion's coach Nicolas Altalef used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international Sebastian Suarez (193-1991, college: Portland St.) produced 23 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Univ.Concepcion have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Colo Colo. Las Animas at the other side keep the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Valdivia and Univ.Catolica. Las Animas will play next round against strong Puerto Varas trying to get back on the winning streak. Univ.Concepcion will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Valdivia at home.
Top ranked Valdivia (3-2) recorded its second loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Espanol (2-3) 85-81. orchestrated the victory by scoring 39 points (!!!). Yasmany Fundora contributed with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Erik Carrasco (181-1983) answered with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Valdivia. Espanol moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Puerto Varas and Puente Alto. Valdivia at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Univ.Catolica and Las Animas. Espanol will play against Ancud (#6) on the road in the next round. Valdivia will play against the league's leader Univ.Concepcion (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Colo Colo managed to escape with a 2-point win 59-57 on Thursday evening. Antonio Pinedo stepped up and scored 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Colo Colo's coach Ernesto Menchaca allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Ramiro Rattero responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Colo Colo have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Univ.Concepcion. Espanol lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Ancud. Colo Colo will meet league's leader Los Leones in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Espanol will play against Puente Alto (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 5 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Boston College was defeated by Puente Alto in a road game 70-55. Los Leones smashed Univ.Catolica at home 88-58. Puerto Varas were destroyed by Ancud on the opponent's court 70-51.




Puente Alto - Boston College 70-55

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Boston College (0-5) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Puente Alto (2-3) 70-55 on Thursday. Puente Alto forced 22 Boston College turnovers. American Rakim Brown (198-1991, college: Humboldt St.) stepped up and scored 28 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import center Jonnivius Smith (206-2001, college: UTSA) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. American forward TJ Robinson (203-1989, college: LBSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and Lucas Marquez (196-2003) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Puente Alto maintains fourth place with 2-3 record, which they share with Puerto Varas and Espanol. Newly promoted Boston College still closes the standings with five games lost. Puente Alto will meet Espanol (#5) in the next round. Boston College's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Univ.Catolica.

No shocking result in a game in Quilpue where leader Los Leones (5-0) smashed 3rd placed Univ.Catolica (3-2) 88-58 on Thursday. Los Leones outrebounded Univ.Catolica 45-27 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Los Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Univ.Catolica's players. American forward Kiandre Gaddy (198-2001, college: Tarleton St., agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Los Leones players scored in double figures. American forward Tristan Harper (198-2000, college: Langston) responded with 18 points and his fellow the other American import import center Jonnivius Smith (206-2001, college: UTSA) scored 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Los Leones have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Loser Univ.Catolica dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Valdivia and Las Animas. Los Leones will meet at home league's second-placed Colo Colo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
