LNF Round 8 of Regular Season

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most shocking disappointment of round 8 was a home defeat of second-ranked Univ. Austral (2-4) to third ranked Alemana (3-3) 77-65 in the game for the second place. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Alemana outrebounded Univ. Austral 47-34 including 36 on the defensive glass. Alemana looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Italian-Argentinian Daniela Dublo (184-1988) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and who added 21 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Alemana P.'s coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Alemana moved-up to second place. Univ. Austral at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Santiago: Puente Alto (#2) and Brisas (#6). Brisas were smashed at home by 59 points 33-92 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The winners were led by who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Catalina Ramirez supported her with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Even 4 points and 9 rebounds by Italian-Argentinian Daniela Dublo (184-1988) did not help to save the game for Brisas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Puente Alto (7-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sportiva Ita. Brisas at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Puente Alto's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Sergio Ceppi.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Vina del Mar. 4th ranked host Gimnastico (3-6) was smashed by third ranked Sportiva Ita. (7-1) 93-59. The best player for the winners was Lydia Rivers who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds. Coach 's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sonya Morris produced 21 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the hosts. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Puente Alto. Loser Gimnastico keeps the fourth place with six games lost. Sportiva Ita. will meet at home Los Leones (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Gimnastico will play against Brisas in Santiago and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 8 Sergio Ceppi was destroyed by Los Leones on the opponent's court 92-35.

Los Leones - Sergio Ceppi 92-35

Rather expected game in San Pablo where 5th ranked Sergio Ceppi (2-7) was crushed by third ranked Los Leones (7-2) 92-35 on Saturday. Los Leones held Sergio Ceppi to an opponent 24.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Los Leones forced 31 Sergio Ceppi turnovers and outrebounded them 52-33 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Los Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Sergio Ceppi's players. The best player for the winners was Alexus Johnson who had a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists and 8 steals. Javiera Campos chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Four Los Leones players scored in double figures. Pia Henriquez produced 10 points and 9 rebounds and Pierina Ballero added 5 points respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Los Leones maintains third position with 7-2 record having just four point less than leader Puente Alto. Loser Sergio Ceppi keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Los Leones will meet league's second-placed Sportiva Ita. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sergio Ceppi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Puente Alto.

Puente Alto players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Brisas' players. The winners were led by Emilia Oliva who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Catalina Ramirez supported her with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists.
