LPB Round 5 (Regular Season): Caimanes hand first defeat to Toros

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Undefeated Toros (6-1) recorded its first loss in Villavicencio on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Caimanes (5-2) 73-68. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Toros. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Caimanes shot 25 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Toros only scored five points from the stripe. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caimanes made 7 blocks. 28 personal fouls committed by Toros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American power forward Rashad Hassan (203-1989, college: SSU) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Argentinian guard Alejo Britos (187-1994) chipped in 22 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American forward James Montgomery (203-2001, college: Barry, agency: WP Sports Agency) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds for the guests. Toros' coach Bernardo Fitz-Gonzalez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Caimanes maintains second place with 5-2 record behind leader Toros. Toros at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. Caimanes are again looking forward to face league's leader Toros in Cali in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toros will have a break next round.

There was no surprise in Medellin where 7th ranked Motilones (2-5) were defeated by fifth ranked Paisas (4-3) 91-86 on Friday. American guard Davion Bailey (193, college: UIW) stepped up and scored 28 points for the winners and the former international forward Andres Millan (198-2001) chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds. Four Paisas players scored in double figures. Panamanian Josimar Ayarza (205-1987, college: Southern Miss) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and the former international Soren De Luque (200-1998) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Motilones keep the seventh position with five games lost. Paisas will again meet at home Motilones (#7) in the next round.
