2029 FIBA AmeriCup Pre-Qualifiers: Alexander's 32 Points Lead Barbados Past St. Vincent and the Grenadines- July 13, 2026
POSTED BY: Eurobasket News
This one stayed tight through three quarters, with eight lead changes and neither side able to build real separation, before Barbados found its familiar gear late. Chrisford Telesford (196-F-1988)'s three-pointer had just given St. Vincent and the Grenadines a brief 56-55 edge midway through the third, but Barbados answered immediately and never surrendered the lead again, closing out a 96-84 win at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on July 12, 2026.
Kyrone Alexander (196-G-2003, college: Boston U.) was once again the driving force, finishing with 32 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, punctuated by a 12-point burst in under three minutes that broke the game open in the third quarter. Rasheed Maynard (185-F-2000) added 22 points and six steals, and Carl Thorpe (201-F -2001, college: York, NE) contributed 19 points on efficient shooting, including 3-of-4 from three. Shad Thomas (201-F-2001, college: Azusa Pacific) did everything he could for St. Vincent and the Grenadines with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, but the Vincentians fresh off their own blowout win over the Cayman Islands couldn't hold on once Barbados' late surge took hold. The win capped a perfect 4-0 run through the Group Phase for Barbados, who topped Group B outright and, along with Group A winners Antigua and Barbuda (3-1), have now advanced to the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round. They're joined there by Costa Rica, already through via the Central American Pre-Qualifiers, and by Cuba, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Venezuela, all of whom qualify via a separate path after their First Round exits in the FIBA World Cup 2027 American Qualifiers. A South American representative for the Second Round has yet to be determined. |
