Canada, Dominican Republic, Argentina and USA advance into semis- June 8, 2024Canada - Brazil 72-68
Canada outscored Brazil to pave their way into the semifinal stage. Canada limited their opponents to just 5 points in the first period to take a double digit lead. Brazil pulled within just 2 points at the final break. But Canada held on throughout the fourth period and got away with a narrow win at the end. Jaion Pitt (201-SF-2006) produced 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Tristan Beckford (196-SF-2006) added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Pedro Pastre (196-G-2007) answered with 11 points for Brazil. Dominican Republic - Belize 79-69 Dominican Republic rolled past Belize en route to the semifinal stage in Argentina. Lucas Morillo (201-G-2007) scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the winners. The teams were tied at 54 heading into the fourth quarter. But Dominican Republic went on a 25-15 run in the final period to snatch the win. Danny Carbuccia (185-G-2006) finished with 17 points for the winning side. Josiah Moseley (198-PF-2006) replied with 25 points and 13 rebounds for Belize. Argentina - Venezuela 79-75 Argentina toppled Venezuela to punch semifinal ticket. Venezuela enjoyed a 6-point lead after ten minutes. But Argentina responded with a 45-28 rally in the next two periods to spur ahead. Venezuela cut the distance in the final quarter but could not avoid the loss. Tyler Kropp (204-PF-2007) provided 22 points and 9 rebounds, while Felipe Minzer (195-G-2007) added 19 points and 15 rebounds for the hosts. Jeiminson Marquez (198-F-2006) answered with 24 points and 8 rebounds for Venezuela. USA - Puerto Rico 98-66 USA are the first semifinalists as they rallied past Puerto Rico in the first quarterfinal clash. Puerto Rico jumped to a 23-20 lead after the first period. But USA quickly took over. They went on a 52-27 second half rally to seal the victory. Trey McKenney (189-SF-2006) posted 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Darius Acuff (188-PG-2006) added 16 points for the winners. Brandon Lee (188-SG-2006) responded with 22 points for Puerto Rico. |
