Univ. Modelo (5-1) recorded its first loss in Merida on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Las Avispas (2-4) 66-49. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Univ. Modelo. Las Avispas held Univ. Modelo to an opponent 23.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Stefi Abarca fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international Gabriela Castrejon chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds. Itzel Valdez produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Las Avispas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Mineras. Newly promoted Univ. Modelo keeps the third position with one game lost. Las Avispas is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Penguins (#9) in Mexico City in the next round. Univ. Modelo will play on the road against Mineras (#6) in Zacatecas and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was played in Zacatecas between seventh ranked Mineras and 4th placed Dragonas where host Mineras (2-4) won against Dragonas (4-2) with 16-point difference 76-60. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Alma Dominguez (163-1997) who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Diana Armas contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Paola Velazquez answered with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for Dragonas. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mineras moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Las Avispas. Newly promoted Dragonas keep the fourth position with two games lost. Mineras will play against higher ranked Univ. Modelo (#3) in Merida in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dragonas will play on the road against the league's second-placed Libelulas in Ciudad de Mexico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Undefeated leader Mieleras delivered the eighth consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they crushed 5th ranked Toritas (2-6) 86-57 in Celaya. It was a great evening for Kimberly Aguilar who led her team to a victory scoring 18 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side Maria Salazar responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Mieleras (8-0) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 8 victories in a row. Toritas lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Mieleras will meet at home Huskys (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toritas will have a break next round.
In the last game of round 7 Libelulas crushed Penguins in Ciudad de Mexico 102-36.
