An interesting game for Libelulas (11-2) which hosted in Ciudad de Mexico one of their biggest challengers Univ. Modelo (7-4). Second ranked Libelulas had an easy win 76-48. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Univ. Modelo. Libelulas forced 29 Univ. Modelo turnovers and outrebounded them 50-31 including a 23-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Carmen Gonzalez who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Adriana Chavez (170, college: St.Thomas, TX) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners. Adriana Gonzalez (181-2001) replied with 14 points for Univ. Modelo. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Libelulas have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-2 record having just two points less than leader Mieleras. Newly promoted Univ. Modelo keeps the third place with four games lost. They share the position with Mineras. Libelulas are again looking forward to face Univ. Modelo (#4) in Merida in the next round. Univ. Modelo will have a break next round.
LMBPF top team - Mieleras (13-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Penguins (1-10) in Guanajuato 99-40. Worth to mention a quality performance of American Veronica Preciado (174-1997, college: CMU) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 4 steals and Mia Castaneda who added 18 points during the contest. Mieleras' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Giselle Medina with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Undefeated Mieleras have an impressive 13-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 13-0 record. Newly promoted Penguins stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Mieleras will again play against bottom-ranked Penguins (#9) in Mexico City in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Penguins will have a break next round.
The game in Ciudad de Mexico supposed to be also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Dragonas (5-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Huskys (2-9). Dragonas smashed Huskys 91-70 on Saturday. The winners were led by Paola Velazquez who scored that evening 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds by Erika Mora did not help to save the game for Huskys. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Dragonas maintains fifth position with 5-6 record. Huskys at the other side dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Toritas. Dragonas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Huskys will play again against Dragonas (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 12: Toritas were beaten by Mineras on the road 65-55. Las Avispas lost to Mineras on its own court 59-76. Mineras managed to outperform Las Avispas in Zacatecas 61-52.
The most impressive performance of 12th round was 12 points and 14 rebounds by Maria Faz of Mineras.
