The most exciting game of round 24 in the CIBACOPA took place in Mazatlan. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best Frayles de Guasave (22-14) to eleventh ranked Venados (7-29) 113-110 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Mazatlan shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 60.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Frayles helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for guard Jeff Ledbetter (191-1988, college: Idaho, agency: Slash Sports) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 9 assists. Power forward Khydarius Smith (203-2001, college: UMBC) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Trey Phipps (188, college: Northeastern St., agency: Origins Sports Group) replied with 25 points and 5 rebounds for Frayles. Mazatlan maintains eleventh position with 7-29 record. Frayles at the other side keep the second place with 14 games lost.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (21-15) against seventh ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (16-18) on Friday night. Host Halcones de Ciudad Obregon was defeated by Pioneros Los Mochis in a tough game in Ciudad Obregon 103-110. American players dominated also this game. Worth to mention a great performance of center Arnett Moultrie (208-1990, college: MSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Jared Wilson-Frame who added 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Jaden House (193-2001, college: URI) with 36 points (!!!). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Los Mochis maintains seventh position with 16-18 record. Obregon lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with 15 games lost.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 24: Culiacan beat Toros on the road 110-100. Hermosillo won against Guaymas on its own court 104-100. Tijuana was outscored by Astros in Guadalajara 92-72. Toros managed to beat Culiacan at home 102-89. Frayles crushed Mazatlan on the opponent's court 118-95. Hermosillo was beaten by Guaymas in a home game 87-95. Los Mochis lost to Obregon on the road 91-101.
The most impressive performance of 24th round was 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by Davonte Gaines of Obregon.



Astros - Tijuana 97-92

CIBACOPA top team - Astros (32-2) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat fifth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (17-19) in Guadalajara 97-92. Americans were the main players on the court. The winners were led by forward Chris Perry (203-1994, college: LMU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Sindarius Thornwell (196-1994, college: S.Carolina, agency: Diamond Sports) supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Even 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by guard Zhuric Phelps (193, college: Texas A&M, agency: 6th Man Basketball Agency) did not help to save the game for Tijuana. No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (17-21) beat 9th ranked Toros (16-20) in Nuevo Laredo 110-100 on Friday. The winners were led by American point guard Roddy Peters (193-1995, college: Nicholls) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals and the other American import forward Tre McCallum (201-1995, college: DePaul, agency: MSG) supported him with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Even 21 points and 8 rebounds by the former international Gabriel Giron (192-1988) did not help to save the game for Toros. Jamaican-American guard Rashad James (185-1990, college: Iona) added 19 points. Five Culiacan and four Toros players scored in double figures.
