LSB Round 9 (Regular Season): Costa Caribe is defeated by Leones in a derby game

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LSB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Leones (#6) and Costa Caribe (#5). Leones (3-5) won against visiting Costa Caribe (3-6) 96-82. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) stepped up and scored 21 points and 8 assists for the winners and chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones moved-up to fourth place. Costa Caribe lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Real Esteli. Leones are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Tigres (#7) in Corinto in the next round. Costa Caribe will play on the road against Real Esteli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Flecheros (5-4) against fifth ranked Real Esteli (3-6) on Wednesday night. Visiting Flecheros were defeated by Real Esteli in a tough game in Esteli 99-104. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winning side and Jared Ruiz accounted for 28 points and 5 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) came up with 30 points and 7 assists for Flecheros in the defeat. Flecheros' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Real Esteli maintains fifth place with 3-6 record, which they share with Costa Caribe. Flecheros at the other side keep the third position with four games lost. Real Esteli will play against Costa Caribe (#5) in Managua in the next round. Flecheros will have a break next round.
Bottom-ranked Tigres managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of two consecutive losses on Wednesday night. This time they won against fifth-ranked Costa Caribe in Corinto 68-55. The best player for the winners was Ezequiel Colon who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Robiel Morales who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tigres maintains seventh place with 2-7 record. Costa Caribe lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Real Esteli. Tigres will meet higher ranked Leones (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Costa Caribe will play against Real Esteli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Brumas won against Leones on the opponent's court 80-65. Jaguares managed to outperform Real Esteli in a home game 121-115. Flecheros managed to beat Tigres on the road 93-79.




Leones - Brumas 65-80

Very expected game in Managua where 6th ranked Leones (3-5) were defeated by second ranked Brumas (6-2) 80-65 on Wednesday. Brumas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was who scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. chipped in 17 points and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and Venezuelan center Miguel Bolivar (205-1992) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Brumas maintains second place with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader Jaguares. Leones lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Brumas will meet league's leader Jaguares in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leones will play against Tigres and hope to secure a win.

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Flecheros (5-4) against fifth ranked Real Esteli (3-6) on Wednesday night. Visiting Flecheros were defeated by Real Esteli in a tough game in Esteli 99-104. Real Esteli players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Flecheros were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winning side and the former international Jared Ruiz (188-1992) accounted for 28 points and 5 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Luis Gonzalez (183-1997, college: PR-Bayamon) came up with 30 points and 7 assists and American forward Glen Rice Jr (198-1991, college: Georgia Tech) added 23 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Flecheros in the defeat. Jaguares - Real Esteli 121-115

Rather predictable result in Managua where leader Jaguares (8-0) defeated 5th ranked Real Esteli (3-6) 121-115 on Monday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Jaguares made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) who scored 63 points (!!!) and 9 assists. chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Jaguares' coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Jared Ruiz (188-1992) who recorded 45 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Jerry Jefferson added 21 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Five Jaguares and four Real Esteli players scored in double figures. Jaguares have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-0 record. Loser Real Esteli keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Costa Caribe. Jaguares will meet at home league's second-placed Brumas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Real Esteli will play against Costa Caribe and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Not a big story in a game in Corinto where 7th ranked Tigres (2-7) were defeated by third ranked Flecheros (5-4) 93-79 on Monday. Flecheros outrebounded Tigres 58-45 including 36 on the offensive glass. Flecheros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. American power forward Eden Ewing (204-1997, college: Texas Southern) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Flecheros players scored in double figures. Flecheros' coach used entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican guard Ezequiel Colon (193-1999, college: Lehman) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Flecheros maintains third place with 5-4 record having just two points less than leader Jaguares. Loser Tigres stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Flecheros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tigres will play against Leones (#4) in Managua and hope to secure a win.
