AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifiers: Torres Powers Puerto Rico Past Guyana

Guyana had a fleeting look at a lead early up 5-4 in the first quarter before Puerto Rico erased it with an 8-0 burst in just 20 seconds and never looked back. The margin only grew from there, and Puerto Rico cruised to a 93-50 win at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello on July 13, 2026, controlling the game for all but 52 seconds.
Franchesca Torres (168-SF-2005) led the way with 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three in under 20 minutes, and Jacqueline Benitez (178-G-1997, college: JMU) added 17 points without a single turnover. Tayra Melendez (183-G-1993, college: URI) filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Joy Adams (180-F-1993, college: Iona) was the lone bright spot for Guyana, playing the full 40 minutes and posting a double-double of 15 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and three steals a repeat of the near-triple-double form she'd shown in Guyana's earlier overtime loss to El Salvador but she had no help this time as Guyana fell to 0-2 in this qualifying window.
