Group ABrazil - Chile 104-54Brazil coasted past Chile for the second straight win in Group A. Six players scored in double figures for the winners. Iziane Castro (182-G/F-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 16 points to pace the effort. Brazil jumped to a 48:25 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the win. Kelly Santos (192-C-79, agency: Interperformances) and Nadia Colhado (193-C-89) delivered 14 points each for the winners. Barbara Cousino (178-F-96) responded with 19 points for Chile. Paraguay - Uruguay 62-56 Paraguay opened win count in Barquisimeto. They fired past Uruguay in the opener. Maria Caraves (169-G-92) nailed 26 points to lead the winners. Paraguay jumped to an 18:13 lead ten minutes into the game. Uruguay managed to narrow the gap in the next two periods. They pulled within a single point at the final intermission. But Paraguay ignited a 20:15 run in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory. Maria Mercado (162-PG-89) and Astrid Huttemann (180-F-92, college: Union, TN) provided 10 points each for the winners. Maria Pereyra (171-G-86) responded with 15 points for Uruguay. Group BPeru - Venezuela 52-82Venezuela coasted past Peru to open win count in Group B. Waleska Perez (180-SG-94, college: Weatherford JC) tossed in 20 points, issued 7 assists adn grabbed 5 rebounds for the winners. Venezuela got to a strong start. They jumped to a 36:27 halftime lead. They erupted for 46 points in the second half and never looked back en route to the win. Roselis Silva (166-PG-91, college: Arkansas Tech, agency: Gamble Sports Management) finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds in the victory. Daniela Porras (165-G-90) answered with 22 points for Peru. Argentina - Ecuador 71-35 Argentina thumped Ecuador in the opening game at the tournament. Gisela Vega (188-C-82) came up with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the winners. Argentina accounted for a 17:7 lead after the opening frame. They boosted the gap at 15-point mark at the interval. Argentina dominated in the second half and cruised to the victory. Karla Yepez (175-F-96) responded with 16 points for Ecuador. |
