LUB Round 3: Olimpia defeat Capitol

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Capitol (1-1) in Montevideo on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Olimpia (2-0) 87-73. It was a good game for guard Abel Agarbado (179-93) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (205-93, college: Wisc.-Parkside) contributed with 7 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Olimpia's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Paul Harrison (204-89, college: N.Greenville) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds for Capitol. Olimpia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Goes.
Another interesting game for Hebraica (1-0) which played in Montevideo against Goes (0-1). Hebraica won 77-69. It was a great evening for American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Dallis Joyner helped adding 12 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Fernando Martinez (173-79, agency: Pro Sports) with 18 points and 5 assists. Hebraica's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Defensor.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Trouville (#8) and Bigua (#2). Trouville (0-1) won against visiting Bigua (2-0) 80-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bigua. It was an exceptional evening for Sampson Carter who led the winners and scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. Trouville's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Storm Warren came up with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds for Bigua in the defeat. Trouville's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Aguada.
Aguada (1-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed Atenas (0-2) in Montevideo 110-86. The best player for the winners was Lee Roberts who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 8 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aguada's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Trouville.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Montevideo: Defensor (#6) and Nacional (#11). Defensor (0-1) won against visiting Nacional (1-1) 79-68. It was a good game for Eric Dawson who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 20 rebounds. Nacional's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Defensor's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Hebraica.



Atenas - Aguada 86-110

Aguada (1-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed Atenas (0-2) in Montevideo 110-86. Aguada players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Atenas' players. The best player for the winners was American power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Spanish center David Doblas (209-81) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was forward Nicolas Catala (200-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and Puerto Rican guard Miguel Ali Berdiel (198-83, college: Valpo) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Four Aguada and five Atenas players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Goes were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. It was a good game for American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 20 rebounds. His fellow American import John DeGroat (201-85, college: Pittsburgh) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Kyle Austin (203-88, college: UC Riverside) answered with 13 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Manuel Romero (183-92) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Nacional. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nacional's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help.
