LUB Round 5: Defensor hand first defeat to Olimpia

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LUB. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with defeat of the leader, derby games, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Olimpia (4-1) recorded their first loss in Montevideo on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by eighth ranked Defensor (2-2) 88-83. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Olimpia. Defensor made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Olimpia 38-27 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Defensor looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import John DeGroat (201-85, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 21 points. Guard Abel Agarbado (179-93) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defensor moved-up to seventh place. Olimpia at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Montevideo. Fourth ranked Trouville (3-1) saved a 2-point derby victory at home edging second-ranked Hebraica (3-1) 81-79 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hebraica. Point guard Alex Lopez (186-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Callistus Eziukwu contributed with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Trouville's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) answered with 22 points and 9 rebounds for Hebraica. Trouville have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Hebraica. Trouville's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Malvin.
Goes can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Urunday Univ. (1-1) 81-70 on Thursday. Martin Aguilera stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners. Goes' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tyrone Lee responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Goes (1-3) left bottom position moving up to tenth place. Loser Urunday Univ. dropped to the eighth position with one game lost. Goes' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Bigua.
Bottom-ranked Sayago (0-2) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 82-69 loss to seventh ranked Malvin (2-1) in Sayago. Juan Santiso nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 assists for the winning side. Malvin moved-up to sixth place. Sayago at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Malvin's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Trouville.

Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Capitol lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eleventh position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Goes can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Urunday Univ. (1-1) 81-70 on Thursday. They outrebounded Urunday Univ. 41-20 including a 35-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Goes especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Forward Martin Aguilera (195-87, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners and guard Fernando Martinez (173-79, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 19 points and 7 assists. Four Goes players scored in double figures. Goes' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Calvin Warner (201-80, college: Jacksonville) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import center Gilbert Talbot (208-94, college: LSUA) added 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Sayago in the defeat.
