There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Atenas - Nacional 105-108 Twelfth-ranked Atenas (1-10) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked Nacional (6-4) in Montevideo. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 108-105. However their fans expected much easier game. Nacional outrebounded Atenas 47-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Atenas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized Brazilian center Hatila Passos (211-85, college: N.Mexico St.) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and American Dominique Morrison (198-89, college: ORU) supported him with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Even 25 points by American swingman Daniel Dingle (200-94, college: Temple) did not help to save the game for Atenas. Forward Gonzalo Meira (195-88, agency: Pro Sports) added 21 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Five Nacional and four Atenas players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Nacional went down to sixth position due to points difference. Atenas lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with ten games lost. Nacional's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Sayago (#13) at home and are hoping to win another game. Local Capitol (4-7) lost to ninth ranked Defensor (6-5) 79-69 on Tuesday night. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican guard Isaac Sosa-Carrion (191-90, college: Canisius) who scored 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Defensor players scored in double figures. American center Paul Harrison (204-89, college: N.Greenville) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and forward Hernando Caceres (202-94, agency: Pro Sports) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Defensor moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Hebraica and Goes. Newly promoted Capitol keeps the eleventh position with seven games lost. Forward Gaston Semiglia (185-91) scored 26 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. American center Gilbert Talbot (208-94, college: LSUA) responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds and forward Fernando Verrone (201-88) scored 6 points and 13 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hebraica moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Defensor and Goes. Loser Sayago still closes the standings with nine games lost. The biggest surprise took place in Montevideo where host Malvin (7-4) edged league's leader Olimpia (7-4) 73-72 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Olimpia. They outrebounded Olimpia 39-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was naturalized German center Kiril Wachsmann (203-84, college: Iona) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Panamanian forward Michael Hicks (196-76, college: Texas A&M-CC) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Puerto Rican forward Johwen Villegas (194-85, college: FIU) produced 18 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Brian Garcia (182-90) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Malvin moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Olimpia. Olimpia will play next round against Sayago trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Malvin will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Bigua. It will be extra interesting game as Bigua is their local rival from Montevideo. It was a key game for the top position in the league. American forward Tyrone Lee (206-90, college: GVSU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import forward Shaquille Johnson (191-90, college: Marshall) contributed with 19 points and 6 assists for the winners. American Dominique Morrison (198-89, college: ORU) replied with 23 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Brazilian center Hatila Passos (211-85, college: N.Mexico St.) added 17 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Nacional. Urunday have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Aguada and Trouville.
