LUB Round 4 of Second Stage- March 11, 2020
There are only two more rounds left in the Second Stage in LUB. Host teams show no mercy winning all games. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Aguada - Goes 94-81 Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Aguada (#1) and Goes (#5). Aguada (4-0) won against visiting Goes (1-3) 94-81. The winners were led by naturalized Italian Leandro Garcia-Morales (186-80, college: Texas A&M, agency: Pro Sports) who scored that evening 31 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: FSU) supported him with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Even 21 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) by forward Martin Aguilera (195-87, agency: Pro Sports) did not help to save the game for Goes. American forward Marvin Phillips (201-83, college: Claflin) added 15 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Four Goes players scored in double figures. Aguada have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-0 record. Loser Goes keep the fifth place with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. They outrebounded Sayago 46-35 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for forward Martin Rojas (194-98) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Panamanian center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) contributed with 9 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four Bigua players scored in double figures. Guard German Silvarrey (183-87) replied with 17 points and 4 assists and American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) added 8 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Sayago. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bigua moved-up to third place, which they share with Capitol. Loser Sayago still closes the standings with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. Urunday (3-1) won against visiting Capitol (2-2) 97-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Capitol. 32 personal fouls committed by Capitol helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. Forward Shaquille Johnson (191-90, college: Marshall) fired 32 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Tyrone Lee (206-90, college: GVSU) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Urunday players scored in double figures. Center Paul Harrison (204-89, college: N.Greenville) produced 27 points and 8 rebounds and guard Davaunta Thomas (196-95, college: Ark.-Fort Smith) added 28 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Urunday maintains second position with 3-1 record behind leader Olimpia. Newly promoted Capitol keeps the third place with two games lost. Defensor (1-2) smashed visiting Trouville (1-2) by 19 points 93-74. Defensor shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a very good performance for American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Diego Garcia (186-92) contributed with 14 points and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Defensor players scored in double figures. Panamanian forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-89) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Tyrone White (201-90, college: CSU Bakersfield) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Trouville. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defensor left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Trouville. First defeat of league's leader Malvin (2-1) against fourth ranked Nacional (2-1) 98-81 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Malvin. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Nacional shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Santiago Moglia (196-89) who helped to win the game recording 21 points. American Maurice Kemp (203-91, college: ECU) contributed with 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Nacional players scored in double figures. Panamanian forward Michael Hicks (196-76, college: Texas A&M-CC) replied with 16 points and naturalized German center Kiril Wachsmann (203-84, college: Iona) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Malvin. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nacional moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Malvin. Malvin will play next round against Hebraica trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo - Hebraica. Nacional will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Defensor. It will be extra interesting game as Defensor is their local rival from Montevideo. Olimpia defeated bottom-ranked Hebraica in Montevideo 94-82. Olimpia made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Olimpia players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (205-93, college: UW-Parkside) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks and point guard Brian Garcia (182-90) who added 24 points during the contest. At the losing side American-Irish swingman Will Hanley (201-90, college: Bowdoin, agency: Duran International) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and American power forward Dallis Joyner (203-90, college: Stony Brook) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Five Olimpia and four Hebraica players scored in double figures. Olimpia have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Hebraica at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. Hebraica will play next round against strong Malvin trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena of Malvin. Olimpia will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Trouville. It will be extra interesting game as Trouville is their local rival from Montevideo.
