Metropolitan Round 14: Lagomar lose to Miramar

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

There was a change at the Metropolitan leadership position after last games. Round 14 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Lagomar (6-2). They were defeated by twelfth ranked Miramar (2-7) 94-86 on Monday night. Miramar shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. American center Malik Wineglass (203-93, college: Harris-Stowe St.) had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Ignacio Morena (183-0) chipped in 10 points, 7 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Naturalized American Reque Newsome (203-81, college: S.Indiana) responded with 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Miramar maintains twelfth position with 2-7 record. Lagomar at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by L.Borges.
The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Lagomar (6-2) in Montevideo. Hosts were rolled over by L.Borges (7-2) 87-60. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Forward Demian Alvarez (193-84) notched 28 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and Miguel Barriola supported him with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by swingman Agustin Da Costa (191-98) did not help to save the game for Lagomar. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. L.Borges have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-2 record. Lagomar at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost.
Quite upsetting was Cordon's (#4) home defeat in a game versus fifth ranked Sayago who edged hosts 61-60. The best player for the winners was Nahuel Lemos who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mauricio Aguiar produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. Sayago have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Colon. Cordon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Verdirrojo.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 14: bottom-ranked Miramar lost to Colon on the opponent's court 68-77. Verdirrojo managed to outperform Tabare in a home game 98-92. 25 de Agosto was rolled over L.Borges on the road 89-60. Stockolmo was defeated by Verdirrojo on its own court 68-74. U.Atletica was smashed by Tabare in a road game 83-60.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 29 points and 6 rebounds by Facundo Medina of Tabare.



Colon - Miramar 77-68

Very expected game when 12th ranked Miramar (2-7) was defeated on the road by third ranked Colon (5-3) 77-68 on Friday. Strangely Miramar outrebounded Colon 44-27 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Martin Trelles (187-96) who scored 31 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Gianfranco Espindola (196-99) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Sebastian Ottonello (195-97) produced 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Malik Wineglass (203-93, college: Harris-Stowe St.) added 11 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Colon maintains third position with 5-3 record having just three points less than leader L.Borges, which they share with Sayago. Miramar lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with seven games lost.

Lagomar - L.Borges 60-87

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Lagomar (6-2) in Montevideo. Hosts were rolled over by L.Borges (7-2) 87-60. It was a key game for the top position in the league. L.Borges dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Lagomar's 28. Forward Demian Alvarez (193-84) notched 28 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and forward Miguel Barriola (191-90) supported him with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by swingman Agustin Da Costa (191-98) did not help to save the game for Lagomar. Point guard Martin Perdomo (178-95) added 16 points for the hosts. Verdirrojo - Tabare 98-92

Everything could happen in Montevideo at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Verdirrojo and 11th ranked Tabare had identical 3-4 record. This time Verdirrojo used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Tabare 98-92 on Saturday night. Verdirrojo made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Andres Dotti (180-93) who scored 31 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard Giovanni Corbisiero (-2) chipped in 24 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Verdirrojo's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian center Ignacio Alessio (203-87) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Leandro Taboada (180-86) added 27 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Four Tabare players scored in double figures. Verdirrojo (4-4) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Cordon. Loser Tabare dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. The best player for the winners was power forward Nahuel Lemos (205-99) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Center Joaquin Jones (199-97) chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Naturalized Italian Mauricio Aguiar (199-83) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and forward Emiliano Baston (202-88) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sayago have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Colon. Cordon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Verdirrojo.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by 25 de Agosto's players. The best player for the winners was point guard Mauro Zubiaurre (189-94) who scored 20 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Forward Martin Aguilera (195-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Juan Galletto (182-96) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds and guard Nicolas Pereyra (180-99) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Stockolmo players scored in double figures. Verdirrojo moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Cordon. Loser Stockolmo dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with U.Atletica.
