Metropolitan Round 16: Change at the top of the standings

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in Metropolitan. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Metropolitan round 16 caused change at the leadership position. Third defeat of league's leader L.Borges (7-3) against third ranked Sayago (7-3) 79-62 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of L.Borges. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Sayago made 18-of-19 free shots (94.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 L.Borges turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (206-93, college: UW-Parkside) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Guard German Silvarrey (173-87) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Sayago's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Demian Alvarez (193-84) replied with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for L.Borges. Sayago have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with L.Borges and Lagomar. L.Borges will play next round against Danubio trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena of Danubio. Sayago will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Miramar in Montevideo.
Leading Lagomar (7-3) recorded its third loss in Montevideo. Hosts were defeated by tenth ranked U.Atletica (5-6) 80-72. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Emilio Taboada (191-82) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 7 rebounds and Antonio Bivins who added 16 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side swingman Agustin Da Costa (191-98) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds. U.Atletica moved-up to seventh place. Lagomar at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with L.Borges and Sayago.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Lagomar (#1) and Verdirrojo (#6). Verdirrojo was defeated at home 48-55 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The winners were led by Reque Newsome who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds. Lagomar's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 11 points and 9 rebounds by Martin Aguilera did not help to save the game for Verdirrojo. Lagomar maintains first position with 7-3 record, which they share with L.Borges and Sayago. Loser Verdirrojo dropped to the eighth place with five games lost. Lagomar's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena .

Other games in round 16 were not that significant. Bottom-ranked Miramar beat Cordon on the road 65-62. Colon lost to Danubio on its own court 72-76. Stockolmo managed to outperform Tabare in Montevideo 72-67.

Verdirrojo - Lagomar 48-55

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Lagomar (#1) and Verdirrojo (#6). Verdirrojo was defeated at home 48-55 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Lagomar forced 20 Verdirrojo turnovers. The winners were led by the former international Reque Newsome (203-81, college: S.Indiana) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Martin Perdomo (178-95) supported him with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Lagomar's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 11 points and 9 rebounds by the former international forward Martin Aguilera (195-87) did not help to save the game for Verdirrojo. Federico Cholaquides (183-93) added 9 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Lagomar maintains first position with 7-3 record, which they share with L.Borges and Sayago. There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Miramar (3-7) edged 9th ranked Cordon (4-6) in Montevideo 65-62 on Monday. The winners were led by Sebastian Ottonello (195-97) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and guard Joaquin Nunez (189-2) supported him with 20 points. Even 19 points and 6 assists by point guard Diego Alvarez (180-90) did not help to save the game for Cordon. The former international forward Octavio Medina (195-96) added 15 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Miramar maintains twelfth position with 3-7 record. Cordon lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with six games lost. They share the position with Tabare. Miramar will meet at home league's leader Sayago in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Cordon's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena 25 de Agosto.

The winners were led by guard Nicolas Pereyra (180-99) who scored that evening 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Anthony Danridge (196-86, college: N.Mexico) supported him with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Stockolmo players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 18 points and 21 rebounds by Argentinian center Ignacio Alessio (203-87) did not help to save the game for Tabare. Agustin Cabillon (198-95) added 14 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Tabare's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Stockolmo maintains fourth position with 6-5 record. Loser Tabare dropped to the ninth place with six games lost. They share the position with Cordon.
