Metropolitan Round 5 (Second Stage): 25 de Agosto beat Larranaga by one after a very close game

There are only two more rounds left in the Second Stage in Metropolitan. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Metropolitan took place in Montevideo. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of bottom-ranked Larranaga (0-4) to sixth ranked 25 de Agosto (2-3) 73-72 on Tuesday evening. American forward Dennis McKinney (193-1998, college: Mt.Mercy, agency: GoEmpire Group) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Diego Tortajada (202-1993) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Center Theo Metzger (200-1999) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 21 rebounds for Larranaga. 25 de Agosto moved-up to fifth place, which they share with U.Atletica and Lagomar. Larranaga at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. 25 de Agosto's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Cordon.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Capitol (2-2) against fourth ranked Colon (3-1) on Tuesday night. Visiting Capitol was defeated by Colon in a tough game in Colon 66-75. It was a key game for the top position in the league. American point guard Casey Jones (195-1993, college: Chattanooga) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Andres Aristimuno chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. Colon's coach Ernesto Dorrego allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American Akia Pruitt (203-1997, college: UNCP) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds. Colon keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Capitol at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Stockolmo. Colon will play against league's second-placed Tabare on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. San Telmo RS's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Lagomar (2-3) 76-63 on Tuesday. Federico Harina nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Bernardo Barrera came up with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Lagomar in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Telmo RS (1-3) left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with Verdirrojo. Loser Lagomar dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with U.Atletica and 25 de Agosto. San Telmo RS's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena O.Mundial.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: Stockolmo was smashed by Miramar on the road 87-68. U.Atletica was destroyed by Tabare on its own court 56-78. O.Mundial managed to outperform Verdirrojo in Montevideo 84-73.
The most impressive performance of 5th round was 24 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by Santiago Wohlwend of O.Mundial.



Colon - Capitol 75-66

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when eleventh ranked Miramar (3-2) crushed 10th ranked Stockolmo (2-2) in Montevideo 87-68 on Tuesday. Miramar looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Joaquin Nunez (189-2002) nailed 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and point guard JMartin Mayora (181-1995) accounted for 15 points and 6 assists. Four Miramar players scored in double figures. Guard Facundo Terra (185-1998) came up with 15 points and 4 assists and American center Lenny Daniel (203-1987, college: CSUN) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Stockolmo in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Miramar moved-up to tenth place. Loser Stockolmo dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. San Telmo RS's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Lagomar (2-3) 76-63 on Tuesday. They outrebounded Lagomar 47-33 including a 36-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Telmo RS made 7 blocks. Argentinian Federico Harina (186-1991) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and Argentinian Valentin Duvanced (, agency: BIG) accounted for 17 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks.
