Metropolitan Round 9: Derby game ends with Olimpia's defeat of U.Atletica

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Olimpia (#4) and U.Atletica (#6). Olimpia (5-2) won against visiting U.Atletica (4-3) 82-67. It was a good game for Brazilian Douglas Nunes (210-1987) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) contributed with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Guard Guillermo Curbelo (187-2001) answered with 19 points and 4 assists for U.Atletica. Olimpia moved-up to third place, which they share with Capitol. Important game to mention about took place in Colon. Eleventh ranked O.Mundial (3-4) saved a 1-point derby victory on the road edging higher ranked Colon (4-3) 80-79 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Colon. Forward Emilio Taboada (191-1982, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up and scored 28 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Leandro Taboada chipped in 18 points. The best for the losing side was American guard Jamal Bieniemy (196-1999, college: UTEP) with 33 points (!!!). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Agustin Zuvich nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. Luciano Previatti came up with 11 points and 8 rebounds for 25 de Agosto in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
