Metropolitan Round 10: Capitol hands first loss to undefeated Larranaga- July 5, 2023

Lagomar - Sayago 88-90 A very close game took place in Montevideo (derby !!!) between Sayago and Lagomar. Eighth ranked Sayago (4-3) got a very close victory on the road over 15th ranked Lagomar (1-6). Sayago managed to escape with a 2-point win 90-88 on Tuesday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Sayago outrebounded Lagomar 58-44 including 19 on the offensive glass. Point guard Emiliano Bonet (186-2001) notched 25 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Italian-Argentinian center Damian Tintorelli (205-1981) supported him with 9 points, 23 rebounds and 4 blocks. Sayago's coach German Fernandez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds by forward Federico Haller (200-1988) did not help to save the game for Lagomar. American swingman Mark Gordon (196, college: Keiser) added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Four Lagomar players scored in double figures. Sayago moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Lagomar lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with six games lost. They share it with Verdirrojo. Sayago will meet at home league's leader Larranaga in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tabare dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Miramar's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Octavio Medina (195-1996) notched 28 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Martin Perdomo (178-1995) supported him with 10 points and 8 assists. Four Tabare players scored in double figures. Even 8 points and 9 rebounds by forward Ezequiel Pineiro (193-2001) did not help to save the game for Miramar. Ivan Loriente (190-1992, agency: Pro Sports) added 12 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tabare have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Miramar dropped to the thirteenth position with five games lost. They share it with 25 de Agosto. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Capitol (5-2) 90-81. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Larranaga. Capitol made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jacob Ledoux (190-1997, college: UTPB) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!) and 5 assists. The other American import forward Karachi Edo (196-1994, college: Fresno St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Edo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Center Theo Metzger (200-1999) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and American forward DJ Foreman (203-1994, college: St.Louis) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Larranaga. Four Larranaga players scored in double figures. Capitol have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Olimpia. Larranaga at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Capitol is looking forward to face Tabare (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Larranaga will play against Sayago (#6) and is hoping to win this game. American guard Robert Whitfield (190-1997, college: UMKC) scored 5 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Yari Acevedo (190-1997) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side center Martin Tessadri (200-2001) responded with 20 points and 9 rebounds and guard Facundo Terra (185-1998) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Stockolmo's coach Andres Borroni tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Verdirrojo (1-6) left bottom position moving up to fifteenth place, which they share with Lagomar. Stockolmo at the other side dropped to the tenth position with four games lost.
